Finally, (after what…7 weeks?) we headed out this morning for some long overdue fishing.
Today we tried a lake we’ve only fished on two other occasions, and both of those times we got skunked bad. Gosam is a pretty large lake and I’m thinking that unless you know where the good spots are, it’s hit and miss – which is what we ran into today. I was told not too long ago that one can rent boats with trolling motors at Gosam so rent a boat is what we did. The price is 35,000 won for a boat that’ll fit 2 people comfortably and it’s yours for the day, or until the battery runs out (I have no idea how long those car batteries last running a trolling motor).
It was a beautiful day to be out on the water except for one minor detail, which was that right after we started, the wind picked up pretty good and was blowing the boat every which way. The boats, by the way, don’t have anchors, which is something I’ll remedy if I rent another one. It was super hard trying to stay in one spot and we were constantly having to turn the boat and maneuver back to where we were trying to fish.
As you can see, I was trying both spinnerbaits and my trusty black Senkos (As usual, I only had luck with the Senkos). I’ll have to get with some people that have fished Gosam before to get some tips but today, we found the bass hiding right next to the cliffs in deep water. I ended up catching two around 1/2 pound each, missed two, and my partner had a couple of bites but never did catch one. I think we spent more time exploring the lake and trying to keep the boat from blowing with the wind than we did fishing, but it was great to get back out, especially on such a gorgeous day like today.
Today is also the last time I fish with Khalil, who’s been my fishing partner for over two years as he’s flying out on the 15th of this month to start a new job in the United Arab Emirates.
Nomad,
As to an anchor, purchase a large mesh bag (nylon) and fill it with rocks. Makes a good anchor.
Timothy,
Great idea! That lake has a rocky shoreline so all I’ll have to show up with is a rope and the bag.
Nomad,
It works for me. Have fun. Tight lines. Post pictures!
were do you rent the boats i would like to camp there and rent a boat and do they have any with gas motors?
Cody, it’s hard to explain where the boat rental places are without showing you on a map, but suffice it to say that if you can make your way to Gosam you shoulnd’t have any problem locating them because the lake isn’t that big. There are at least three that I know of, all of them priced about the same. And as far as camping, I’m not sure about that. I don’t think they have any designated campgrounds, but have seen some Koreans setup in tents along the bank out there so it shoulnd’t be a problem if you can find a spot to pitch a tent.
Ditto what Rob said. There’s a road which goes around the lake and if you watch, you’ll be able to see the parking lots and the boats in the water. They only have big wooden boats with trolling motors; at least that’s all they had the last time I was there.
