After telling my buddy Ty about my boating/fishing trip to Gosam lake last Monday, he wanted to give it a shot so we made plans to leave at 6 this morning. Mother nature had other plans, and gave us a lovely thunderstorm along with buckets of rain which by no coincidence, started right at 6, so we had to wait until the weather cleared up.
By 8, it had stopped raining so we headed out to Gosam to catch dinner and when we got to the lake, it was overcast, cool, and a bit windy – not perfect, but pretty good for fishing. We got the boat and at the very first place we stopped and fished, I caught a small bass on the very first cast – “Well, this should be an omen for the rest of the day,” I thought to myself, but was I ever wrong.
This is how the morning started out – windy and cloudy conditions.
After catching that one small bass, we didn’t have any more bites in that spot so we thought we’d make our way around the lake and hit every spot that looked like a possibility.
Ty played skipper today – dig those shades.
We ended up going around the entire lake, trying just about every lure we could think of; Senkos of various colors, spinner baits, crank baits, and even jigs along the cliffs and rocks but aside from one other bite, nothing. And then around 10 or so the sun came out, the wind died down, and all of a sudden, instead of September, it was feeling like July or August.
Here you can see how calm the water got once the wind died down.
There were a lot of other fishermen out on the lake but nobody was catching anything. We had one funny incident – there were two Americans fishing in a boat and as we went by them, we exchanged pleasantries and one of them said, “Hey, I know you – aren’t you the guys from that Korean fishing site, Anglerstown?” Ty and I thought that was pretty funny because it’s not the first time that’s happened to us but usually it’s Korean fishermen we run into out on the lakes that recognize us from the pics we post on that site. I was going to ask them if they wanted our autographs but Ty didn’t think that was a good idea, especially since our stringer was empty at the time.
Once we got back to the boat ramp, we didn’t feel so bad about not catching anything because there were a lot of other fishermen there, taking a break, and after talking to some of them we found out that no one else had any luck today either. I’m not sure if it was the rain we had early this morning or if it’s still too early in the season for the bass to get active – and believe me it was hot out there in the sun today – both of us got sunburned pretty bad.
Well, I have knee surgery next Thursday so I doubt there’ll be any fishing next weekend but hopefully by the time I heal up the water will have cooled down and the bass will be actively feeding again.
That was me that said I recognized you guys….we ended up with 7 in the boat, 2 quick releases, and about 6 more missed hits, all from 2 stretches of banks.

LOL…small world
You guys must have had the touch that day…when we got back to shore, we talked to a bunch of Koreans and no one had any luck that day.
Let me guess, you were using regular plastic worms? If you don’t mind me asking, what was the largest bass you caught out of that lake?
That was our first trip out there, not the last. I got two that morning at 13″..not huge but I guess that is a decent sized fish out there. Going back this Saturday to find some new areas. Yes, all different sized plastics were what worked for us…fish seem to be in a summer pattern still…deeper and sluggish.

Have you ever tried any of the other lakes around this area? Or the river around Cp Humphreys?
Gosam – I’ve been told by a few people that there aren’t a lot of big bass in that lake. Why, I don’t know as it’s bigger and deeper than some of the other lakes we fish, lakes that produce good sized bass.
Fished that river once, but didnt do any good. Need to get back there though, but fishing from the boats is more fun for us, so will probably fish Gosam mostly. I can handle the small fiish, they are a lot of fun. If you know of any pay ponds with bass by osan AB, can you shoot me an email? Thanks!
