I was planning on being lazy Sunday afternoon with nothing on the plate except hanging out at home, watching a movie or doing some reading until I got a call from Jim, asking me if I wanted to head out to the lake to see if the bluegill and bass were biting. I was still fried from Saturday’s boating outing, and seeing it was just as hot yesterday, I was looking for excuses to stay home.
Fortunately, I was talked into going fishing (I was reminded that I probably wouldn’t be doing any fishing next weekend with my knee surgery scheduled for this Thursday) because the bass were cooperating. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera at home, which means I didn’t get any pics so you’ll have to take my word for it. I’m still thinking that the water is too warm because Jim didn’t catch a single bluegill and this lake is full of them and in the spring and early summer, they’re all over the place but yesterday, we tried several spots and not a single one. Ty and I were strictly bass fishing though and we did a little better, especially later in the afternoon. I ended up with 3 bass (none worth bragging about) and Ty caught a really nice one (all fish were caught on either black or smoke black/silver flake 5" senkos).
I think it’ll be a few more weeks before the water cools down enough in this lake for the bass to start actively feeding again. As for the bluegill, I have no idea what’s going on.
