This afternoon I drove over to meet Rob, Gar, and their friend Ron for some boat fishing on the Anseong river near Camp Humphreys. I arrived at the designated meeting place around 12:45 and they came down river to pick me up shortly after. Gary came ashore and got his inflatable boat out of his van since there was only room enough for 3 people to fish from Rob’s boat. But when Rob tried to start the motor on his boat, something had apparently seized up because the thing wouldn’t turn over. Gary, however came to the rescue and offered to tow us to the island in the middle of the river so that Rob and I could fish there while he and Ron fished some other areas.
Heh, you thought I was kidding about the tow, didn’t you?
LOL, here we are being towed in our huge tanker by Gary and Ron in their inflatable.
Rob fishing some of the numerous trees that are in and under the water all along the side of this island.
And here’s Rob with one of the bass he caught.
I do believe that Rob has learned about the power of the Senko. All our fish were caught on 3 and 4 inch Senkos today – I was using black and Rob was using a watermelon color.
You may have noticed that we seem to be in the same spot in all these pics. Very astute of you if you did because yes, so we were. Rob had found a hole with some nice-sized bass and I think he caught 4 or 5 right in a row, all between 1 1/2 and 2 pounds (he had a scale and weighed them).

Rob again with another nice bass.
It was a perfect day: Pleasant temperature, almost no wind, and the fish were biting steadily. The two of us caught around 20 fish today and also lost quite a few due to the bass getting tangled under all the downed branches. Gary and Ron also caught around 20 fish (or so they claim – lol, just kidding, Gar!).
What better way to end the day than with a beautiful sunset while getting towed back to shore?
I had a great day; one of the best I’ve had in a while. It was good to see Gary again – I think the last time I saw him we were both doing the nightshift at CP Tango during an exercise and he was still active duty. And it was great to finally hook up with Rob to do some fishing, something we’ve been meaning to do for a while. Hopefully we can all get together and do it again before it gets too cold.
Didn’t you give up smoking?
Other than the tank screwing up, I had a great time too. Given that we only caught four the day before I was pleasantly surprised that we did as well as we did. It just goes to prove that sometimes the best spots are right underneath your nose. Oh, and I’ll be ordering some more Senkos real soon!!
Joel,
I applaud your acute attention to detail. The red pack at the front of the boat was there when I got in and I assume it’s empty. The pack you see beside Rob is his. However, to answer your question – yeah I did try but failed miserably. Not for the first time, and probably not the last time, either.
Rob,
It was one of those perfect days…heck, we were catching fish from shore while waiting for Gary to inflate his boat! Hopefully the bass are just as willing out near Asan Bay today.
Had a good time guys… one of the better days I’ve had out on the river lately. The bass are hungry!
That boat looks a tad….weathered.
and this is why it sucks to not have a car here. nice fish, always read your articles about fishing and dream about them. lol.
