Bout time

Even though the weather forecast said it was going to rain, we decided to head out early this morning to see if the fish are getting active yet and the answer is yes, they are.  We caught several small bass and Jim caught quite a few really nice bluegill but unfortunately the cold rain which started right around noon cut our fishing day short.  I only hope that this isn’t an omen:  Two years ago, I caught almost every single bass on Zoom blackberry U-tail worms.  Last year, the bass were hot on black 5″ Senkos…there were days when we were able to catch fish all day long, even if other people weren’t getting a bite.  Today, we couldn’t get a bite on a black Senko in any of the places we tried and all the bites we got were on Blue Pearl-colored 5″ Senkos.  Since I still have plenty of black Senkos left, I hope that Pearl Blue isn’t the new choice this year.

I was glad when Ty finally took the picture because my arm was getting real tired holding that monster up :) .  The one thing I did notice though was that the bass were hitting the worm pretty aggressively and then running with it which means the action should continue to pick up as the water warms up in the next month or so.

Wow Nomad, that’s a really nice looking and well-sized bass. Sure miss the good ol’ days the last time I went fishing in Palau.

    Lucky you!
