Night fishing rocks

Like I said in an earlier post, a couple of us went night fishing last night and what a blast it was.  We had it all; darkness, thunderstorms, wind, rain, a twelve-pack of beer :) , islands, houseboats and through it all, the fish were biting.

We arrived at the lake around 6:30 and as soon as we started casting, we were catching fish on plastic worms and crank baits.  Once it got dark, the bass slowed down a little but were hitting crank baits and rattle traps, two of which I lost when they got snagged on those darned nets that are starting to spring up in this lake.  Later, around ten or so, the moon peeked out and illuminated the water and on a hunch, I put on a white spinner bait with silver blades and lo and behold, started catching bass on it.  I also lost quite a few fish, which was due to my inexperience using spinner baits, since I primarily use plastic worms.

Like I said, we had a blast.  There’s more, like all four of us piling into a two-man inflatable raft and rowing out to an island in the middle of the lake, and stopping at a houseboat along the way to drink a beer (It was a long row).  I got home around one in the morning; tired, hungry, dirty and wet but I can’t wait till next Friday night because we’re going to do it all over again.  Sorry, no pics…I’m (usually) not much of a drinker and in between the darkness and the few beers I had, I didn’t want to break out the camera out of fear I’d drop it in the lake or something.

Nomad, I think if you could get Rob’s secret angler buddies to go next time it’d be a hell of a lot more interesting out there in the dark. What goes fishing stays fishing right? “Hey baby, would you like to try my worm? No, no, no… you’re not holding holding your mouth right. That’s it, nice and slow… twitch it once in awhile… oh yeah, that’s it… don’t fight it… let it come to you…”
