Visibility

This morning I got up early and headed out to my favorite lake for some fishing.  There was already a light fog as I was leaving, but right after I got to the lake, the mist really started rolling in.

The above was right around 6:30 and visibility wasn’t too bad at that point but I could see that the fog was coming in through the hills, which I thought was good, since at this lake, the bass usually stop biting the second the sun hits the water.  I love being on the water so early because usually, I’m the only one out there and it’s really the only time I feel I’m getting some peace and quiet.

The fog kept coming until I couldn’t see more than 10 feet in any direction and didn’t start clearing until nine when the sun started burning it off.  I have no idea how that guy got over to the island in the middle of the lake (bottom left pic), but when the fog started burning off, I could see him there across the water.  I didn’t hear a boat, so he either spent the night, or someone took him over there very early this morning.  The good news was that with the fog, the fish were biting.  The bad news was that they were all small.  And once the sun broke through, the fish stopped hitting and also, a bunch of other fishermen showed up so I packed up my stuff and went home.

    Nomad,

Which lake is this? Any suggested bass lakes near Humphreys. I drive, but not a 4WD. I’m looking for something within say, 1 hour from Camp Humphreys. Thanks.

    Charles,

Hit the river near Humphreys. Lots of bass.

Another suggestion – go to the PX/BX book section, and get yourself a road atlas (The blue-colored one seems to be the best) and check out lakes in this area. Almost every freshwater lake/stream around here has bass in it.
