Perfect gift for the fisherman

By the way…if anyone wins the lottery or just wants to buy me something nice, I would sure love one of these reels (check out that price!), mated with a medium-heavy, 6′8″ G-Loomis spinning rod.  Yep, that’s $1,000 for a rod and reel.  No way I’d ever spend that kind of money, but a man can dream…

We saw a guy using one of these reels the other day and I couldn’t believe how far and smooth it casts.  He was using a 1/4 ounce lure, casting into a brisk wind, and was getting way out, with no backlashes.

Nomad skips work, goes fishing

The plan was to be at the lake at six, and get there at six I did.  Yesterday, Rob discovered a trail that leads to nice cove in an area of the lake I haven’t fished yet, so this morning I parked the car, gathered my gear and made the hike through the woods and over the hills.  It was quite the nice morning:  No breeze, just the right temperature for a brisk hike, and best of all, once I arrived I was pleased to see that I was the only one on that part of the lake.

Nomad skips church, goes fishing

To celebrate its 33rd birthday, our church had a combined service in the Songtan Civic Center today, followed by food and games/sports.  Since I’m not a big fan of crowds, I somehow talked my way out of having to go.  Mrs. Nomad didn’t even give me “the look” but I think that was partially due to the fact that tomorrow is my birthday, and her knowing how bad I wanted to go fishing again today.  And fishing I went.

Muddy waters

Today wasn’t the best day I’ve ever had fishing, but then again, it wasn’t the worst either.  I headed out early this morning and tried several areas on the Anseong river, but the river is very muddy – either from the recent rains, the dredging that’s going on upstream, or a combination of the two.  Too bad because there was no wind and the water was as smooth as a mirror but when the water is that stained, the fish just aren’t very active.

Pyeongtaek Lake

Today was most excellent, let me tell you why.  While some of you were stuck in your cubicles, offices and classrooms, I went fishing :)  And not only did I go fishing, but I finally caught my first bass of the year (Nomad waits for the applause to die down).  And not only did I catch my first bass of the year, but it came in at three pounds, four ounces (the crowd goes wild), which is the biggest bass I’ve caught in at least a year, maybe more – a fact I’m not too proud of but hey, that’s the way it goes.
