Muddy waters

Today wasn’t the best day I’ve ever had fishing, but then again, it wasn’t the worst either.  I headed out early this morning and tried several areas on the Anseong river, but the river is very muddy – either from the recent rains, the dredging that’s going on upstream, or a combination of the two.  Too bad because there was no wind and the water was as smooth as a mirror but when the water is that stained, the fish just aren’t very active.

I caught one single bass out of the river (on a 5″ Senko, black with red flakes, just in case anyone cares), which surprised me, given the water conditions. (As always, you can click on the pics to see the full-sized images)

Since the river was so muddy, I decided to head out to Idong lake near Songtan but the water there, which is usually very clear, was also pretty murky today – and way up, which was a bad sign.  Another bad sign was the presence of several boats out on the lake, bass fishing.  I don’t know if the rules have changed and they’re allowing boats on the lake now, or if it’s just early in the year and the guy who usually comes around charging 5,000 won to fish and who chases the boaters off the water isn’t on duty yet.  Just a few years ago I could go out to Idong early on a Saturday morning and I’d be the only soul out there…but that sure has changed in the last year or two.

The same thing is happening down here in Daegu. Many Koreans on the banks and in boats, in lakes that had no bass fishermen 2 years ago.
Amazing observation…..the ones on the banks want to fish out of your pocket! I’ve told many of them…Ka-Jah!!!

Rob tells me that about three or four years ago, he and his buddy were the only bass fishermen out on the Anseong river, period. But now, on a weekend, there are all kinds of boats out on the water, and in some areas, the bank is elbow to elbow.

    Enjoy it while you can…

Another Basser, ka-ja means “let’s go,” not “go away.” lol

Yes, bass fishing really has taken off in this country. Like Nomad said, enjoy it while you can!!

Excuse me!!!!!!!!!!!!!I stand corrected. I think the reference was to the fact that I wanted to say KA!!!!!!!
I think the reference was to the fact that they want to stand in your shoes….thank you for the Korean lesson. Now….what is your point.

I wasn’t trying to be a smart ass. Sorry if you took it that way.
