Nomad,
How about a picture of a Bowfin? I've never heard of them. I suppose I could just Google it...

You forgot the sharp teeth...reminds me of the bowfin we used to fish for in Georgia when nothing else was biting. Put a small bluegill on a big hook, cast it out and let it sit on the bottom and wait. Bowfin (or mudfish, as the locals called them) are strong and put up an excellent fight.

Nomad,
I caught it on a small white/blue spinnerbait. He hammered it and I thought I had a 5 to 6 lb. bass. Other than that...it's the same as landing a bass.....don't give them slack....very hard bodies...no real hook set!! The hook fell out when on the bank.

Happy birthday...

I hope to get some fishing done this year after missing last year. A doctor friend from elementary school is going to be back in this area a few months out of the year and has a nice bass boat, I'm hoping to go with him early this summer.

On holes, when I was doing a lot of fishing two years ago, I wanted to enjoy being back in the north GA mountains area and fish along creek and stream banks and explore, but I found my creature of habit instincts kick in and I kept going back to the same fishing holes where I knew I'd catch something...
