I wet my finger and point it high in the air. I'm right more often than those forecasters. Oh yeah, I study the animated map on CNN.

Nomad,

I'm like you as these guys hardly ever get it right. They predict typhoons as James stated and we have a nice sunny day. As for rain predictions, they predict them all the time and hardly ever get them right. They just got lucky this time. At least you still got to hit the lake and smell the fresh dew from the rain landing on the fresh Korean soil. Hopefully you get good weather during your leave.

I've always found it easier to look at Yahoo weather than the KMA forecasts. If you are on base you can access the radar image which helps to display where rain showers are.

James,

Although I do check Yahoo weather and the USFK website for longer forecasts, I don't trust either of them as they've both been terribly wrong in the past, even for next-day weather. There have been quite a few times when Yahoo predicted rain and windy conditions for the following day and yet the weather ended up being quite pleasant (and the other way around). I only care about short-term predictions right in my area and so far, KMA hasn't let me down (although you're right, it shouldn't be that hard to cover the next 21 hours for a meteorologist).

And you're always welcome to come on up and fish the pristine Anseong river with us :)

I was out on Saturday for a few hours during a huge caddis hatch and caught five cherry trout in the steady rain. After the rain stopped, so did the fish activity but it was time to head home and dry out by that time.

As for the KMA forecast, their forecast is only for the next 21 hours and in my opinion, that is hardly useful for advance planning of outdoor activities. Hell, I can predict the waether in the next 21 hours by looking out the window. In part it is to cover their incompetence. Often they go overboard in their predictions in order to cover their ass in the event that a weather emergency happens and they don't predict it accurately enough. Last year they called for a typhoon that didn't show up (just heavy winds and rain) and this last winter they called for a massive snowfall when it was simply a winter dusting.

And Nomad, I'll be expecting a phone call to go fishing during one of those vacation days.

I'm in Taegu. I went out before sunrise and caught 12 before the rains came. It started raining here about 9:30.

I didn't mind the rain, wet shoes, soggy socks and muddy floor mats so much - I think I was worse off the last time we took the boat out on the river. But the lack of fish on top of it all was something else.

I didn't think it was that bad. I've hunted in a lot worse, plus my chest waders and rain jacket kept me fairly dry and warm. As always though, it would have been nice to catch more fish. :)

I usually take some time off around my birthday in April but I found that can be a bit early for the bass so this year, I postponed my week off till late May to see if the fishing is any better. If only the weather cooperates! Is there such a thing as an anti-rain dance?
