I finally went fishing again this morning but unfortunately, I don’t have much to write about. I left the house at 4:30 and headed out to the river near Camp Humphreys, hoping to beat the crowds and also to catch some bass. I had completely forgotten that it’s vacation season for the Koreans but I was quickly reminded of that by the number of people camping by the river (why anyone would want to vacation/camp near that river is beyond me; there are so many beautiful and scenic areas just a ways east of here) and the number of carp fishermen already out on the bank.
I tried a couple of areas along the river and ended up with only three small bass all morning. The river is still high and a bit muddy from the recent rains, and I didn’t even recognize one of the areas I like to fish because of the construction that’s being done along the shore (Gar & Rob, I’m talking about the spot where the old PBA boat ramp and chicken restaurant were). The road that used to lead right up to the water is gone, replaced by a high levee and for some reason, they dug canals/channels from the river about every 50 yards or so, so it’s now impossible to walk the bank, looking for good spots. Blah. Initially, I wanted to head out to Idong (my favorite lake) but Rob did a recon on it yesterday and told me that the water level is so high right now that it’s impossible to walk along the shore without going up into the hills and the trees. If I wasn’t planning on leaving within the next two years, I’d sell my SM5 and I’d buy me a SUV and a boat.
