I’ve been looking forward to this three-day weekend for the last two weeks. After working 12-hour shifts for the last couple of weeks, I wanted to go fishing every day this weekend and I had it all planned out:
This morning, I was going to drive down to a lake near Dunpo, Sunday afternoon I was going to grab my chest waders and head to my favorite cove on Idong Lake and Monday morning, I intended to head back down to Dunpo for a few hours and then to stop by the river for the rest of the day. All week, I checked various weather sites like USFK and 365.com, and all predicted decent weather for the weekend – even all the way up till yesterday when I also checked KMA. As of yesterday evening, the forecast all around was for cloudy skies today with a light chance of rain in the afternoon – so last night, I got all my gear ready, retied my lures and got a good night’s sleep, thinking I was going to be on the road by 5.
I woke up at 4:15 this morning and as I was laying there, I thought to myself, “Hmm, what’s that sound? That sure sounds like RAIN!” I don’t know about your area, but here, it was coming down steady and hard, hasn’t let up yet, and all day, I got to look at this:
Blah…today is shot and tomorrow isn’t looking to good either. The road into the cove is a narrow dirt road which goes up and over a hill and when it rains, that road gets super slick to the point where it’s even hard to make it in (or back out) with a four-wheel drive. I hope the rain ends sometime tonight or tomorrow morning and if so, I’ll still head down to the lake near Dunpo on Monday but after this much rain, the river is out because it’ll be a mess. Again, blah!

Poor Nomad.
But the rain makes us cooler.
We like it!
I don’t mind the KMA being wrong once in a while (I think its more than ‘once in a while’, though), but I wish they could get the simple stuff right. On Thursday I checked the weather and saw the dates, “August 30″ and “September 1″. More frequently, they add a day; I’m sure I’ve seen June 31 and the like. If they get the unchanging and predicatble stuff wrong, how can we trust their attitude to accurate weather forcasting?
yeah it sucks a big one i had to grill my steaks in the rain last night….but they were still good!!
Jim Beam and Coke tasted the same.
I went out fishing on friday and the rain and cold weather shut them down….not 1 bite!!!!!!!!
It’s 30 degrees colder than last week.
I was out on Saturday. Fished one medium-sized freestone river early in the morning and there was nothing–it was rising fast, so I moved to a mountain creek and had steady action on the rainbows all day, in the rain, which fell nonstop. Went back to the hotel soaked to the bone.
I looked at the same river from the day before this monring and it was raging and swollen. The spots where I sometimes camp were underwater. Mountain streams are now whitewater chutes.
Right now the Nakdong (Korea’s longest river) is flooded out, lots of scum and debris on the surface and looking grim.
Weather reports call for more rain this week.
James,
Good to hear from you again. Hope all is well with the family.
I, for one, hope that the weather reports are wrong because enough is enough already. I’m ready for a nice, cool and dry fall.
