The dawn of a perfect day

So far, this has been the perfect weekend.  Friday, Mrs. Nomad and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary, the Indians beat the Yankees and this morning, Rob and I finally had a decent day out on the river.  We started out around 6 at one spot where we had done good in the past but this morning, the bass weren’t hitting and once the carp fishermen started showing up in droves we decided to pack our stuff and head somewhere else.

Rob wanted to check out a spot he hadn’t fished in about three or four years and I’m glad he did, because we did pretty good there.  But before I get to the fishing, check out these pics of a gorgeous dawn (as always, click on the pics to see the full-sized images):

Like I said, once we headed to the new spot, we started catching bass.  It’s a great area on the river and I’ll definitely be going back; lots of rocks and deep water, which is perfect for bass.  Rob caught a nice one around 1 1/2 pounds on his very first cast with a black/blue chatterbait, and the rest of the fish were caught on five-inch Senkos (Black, watermelon, baby bass and black/blue).  Most of the bass we caught were in the 1/2 – 1 pound size like this one:

Both Rob and I caught fish that weighed over three pounds today, which is something that hasn’t happened to us since early spring (that is, each of us doing so on the same trip).  I was lucky to land the below fish because once I got it to the bank and got hold of it, I saw that I only had it hooked by a very thin piece of skin.

Below is Rob’s bass, which came in at 3 pounds, 3 ounces and measured the same length as mine.

I wish we could have stayed longer but I had promised Mrs. Nomad and the Little Nomad that I would take them to the Air Show on Osan Air Base today, which might be the subject of another post.  Oh, and what really made the morning complete was hearing on the radio on the way home that the Indians had beaten the Yankees 2-1.  It just doesn’t get any better than this :)

As always, had a great time out on the river too. It was nice to finally have a “rain free” weekend.

Looks like you guys did good and caught some nice fish. Congrats on the anniversary. Nowadays you just don’t hear of too many 20 year anniversaries as many people are always divorcing. I’m right behind you on the 20 by six months. May God bless you with many a more anniversaries.

Here’s my Tuesday morning fishing report. After an exhausting day at Everland yesterday, decided to relax today with my 2 cousins and do some fishing. Our quarry of choice today was to be bluegills on ultralight tackle. We decided to check out this other lake Southeast of the rest area: Google Earth Coordinates 37° 3’44.02″N and 127° 8’40.09″E. Turns out its a pay lake (5,000 won). Weather looked good, everything was great, just got off to a little late start as I had to get the rugrat off to school. Arrived at about 830 am and fished hard for about an hour, not a sign of a bluegill, caught a few small bass, decide to switch over for bass and ended catching about a dozen (all small) until they shut down at about 1030. All on 6″ black/blue flake senko. About that time the small carp started sunning themselves and after about 30 min of experimenting, figured out how to get them to bite a live worm off the surface and the fun was on. Ended up catching about 15 of them total all about 1 pound and on ultralight tackle. That was a blast. About 1345 started getting too hot and windy so packed up and left. Never once saw nor caught a bluegill. Don’t know if there are any in there. Saw plenty of small bass in the shallows up against the grass. Saw some real nice bass hitting the surface early, wish I would have arrived earlier and started for bass right off. Oh well, still had a blast. BTW: water was perfect. Looks like all that green stuff is gone now.

Congrats on the anniversary. Sun-Hee and I will have our 9th in Dec.
I’ve been trying to get some fishing, but the weather just took a turn toward chilly in Georgia just after I’ve gotten over a month-long stomach virus. I’m still going out now that I’m semi-healthy, but I’m going to do some primative camping. I’ve been inspired by the Discovery show Man vs Wild…I thought some of you over here at Lost Nomads might be interested in that if you haven’t seen it already….My high school students said it was all “staged”…but it sure looked like he was drinking water from elephant dung to me…..Don’t think I can find any of that around here…..but we’ll see….

  9. [...] you remember, last Saturday Rob and I did pretty good on the river and caught some nice-sized bass.  Well, that didn’t last long at all.  Yesterday, all I was [...]

Primitive camping…does that mean no DVD player, computer, cell phone or coffee maker?
