To put it bluntly, I got my ass handed to me on a platter today. The only positive thing (besides getting out there and wetting a line) was that I had most of the river to myself.

I went fishing today. I just couldn’t pass up that nice weather and here lately, I’ve been jonesing real bad to go wet a line; today was the perfect opportunity. I got to the river around noon, and when I arrived, I saw that I wasn’t the only one who thought today was a good day for fishing.
There were several people out in their boats and to my surprise, there were also lots of carp fishermen along the shore. I’ve never fished for bass this late in the year and I learned a few things today. First and most important – you have to slow it down. If you think you’re fishing your lure too slow, slow it down even more because the bass are lethargic and aren’t going to expand too much energy chasing down a potential meal. And when the fish do hit a lure, it’s a very light tap and if you’re not paying attention, you may not even know that a bass picked up your worm.
I only fished for a couple of hours and this is the only bass I caught today, although I did manage to miss a couple. To be honest, I was surprised to catch even this one; I didn’t think the bass would be biting this time of year and I went out mainly to get some fresh air and to hold a rod in my hand (no pun intended, you pervs). But now I’m thinking that if we get some more decent weather, I’ll head out again to give it another shot.
