Christmas fishing

To put it bluntly, I got my ass handed to me on a platter today.  The only positive thing (besides getting out there and wetting a line) was that I had most of the river to myself.

The warm temps have turned the rice fields I had to walk across into swamps and my hiking boots were coated with two inches of sticky mud.  And the bass, well, they apparently take Christmas off because I didn’t even have a hint of a bite.  After reading several articles about winter fishing, I decided to follow their advice and try a jig and trailer, fished slow…and I promptly got the jig hung up on something on the second or third cast and had to break the line so I went back to fishing my (usually) trusty Senkos.  I must have walked and fished well over 150 yards of shoreline today, determined to catch something but after three hours without a bite, my thoughts turned to a hot cup of coffee and a cheese danish – and that’s all she wrote.  As much as I hate to do it, it may be time to put the gear away until spring.

Yeah I hear you Gar, but with those pleasant temps, I had to give it another shot.
