I was bored this morning and decided to go for a drive. Even though it warmed up into the mid 40′s I had a feeling that the river was still going to be iced over, and as you can see from the pic below, it was. Weird looking ice on the bank, eh?
These geese didn’t mind the icy waters, and man, were they ever loud as they passed by.
There ya go, Rob – the first post of 2008, and the first “new post” on the new blog
That is some strange ice there. I wonder how that formed. My dad was asking me this past weekend if anyone here ice fishes like they do back in the northern states. The only thing I have seen so far is a Korean documentary about local villagers hacking through the ice on local streams with axes to get at the trout stranded underneath in small pools. Wasn’t much like fishing but more like harvesting. Of course, they would immediately carve it up as sushi and serve it with red pepper paste. Haven’t seen any more traditional style ice fishing.

ROTFL Dave.
Rumor has it that they sometimes ice fish for bluegill on Idong, but I have never seen it with my own eyes.
When Idong freezes over solid, they do get out there. They even had a segment about it on FTV and they showed people catching some nice-sized bluegill out of there.
Nomad,
Glad you opened another site to keep up with the fishing reports. Of course we won’t mind if you, Gar or Rob throw in a Girl Wednesday every once in a while. It’s like fishing on a lake while the girls are out there sun bathing. This even happened while I was in Iraq of all places. I was behind a building fishing for Carp or whatever weird fish Saddam had put in his lakes at Camp Slayer when three fine looking contractor females decide to lay out in Bikinis about ten yards from me in the back of the building next to where I was at. That is like not cool in Iraq as many of us had been out there for a long time without any sex. Hell, a breeze would have got this old geezer excited.
I’m glad you set this up. Hopefully I can contribute some this year. It still has that Nomad feel
Running this blog will take up a LOT less of my time since I’ll update it primarily on the weekends during fishing season. Perfect. Anyone is welcome to help contribute
I loved the old site but never contributed so I’m looking forward to throwing in a report or two on something I know a little about (or at least passionate about).
John,
You’re in like Flint! Hopefully, in a few weeks you and I will have more than ample time to get you up to speed on blogging
