As some of you may know, I’m going to Nigeria on Sunday for 5 weeks, so I had to get one more day of fishing before I go. Here’s the result I got from a VERY cold and rainy Tuesday.
I was using a watermelon/black flake GY SwimSenko on a 3/0 hook and a Parasite clip
Just resently I bought a Humminbird Smartcast, so I tied it to one of my rods and started casting around the lake to find out how deep it is and if there is any bottom structure, and to try and see if I could find some Bass
I found that the water was 6 feet deep all over the lake, so I tied 6 feet of 8lb line to the smartcast transducer and a 1/0 hook and Tiny Brush Hog. Here’s what happened next…….
Then on almost my last cast of the day I caught this Bass
It was only 40*f and the water was 38*f, but the fish were still quite active….I also missed and lost a few fish
Good job Steve! Again, we’re still frozen over up here.
Funny, I was checking out those small Hummingbirds online just yesterday. Do you like it?
Take care of yourself in Nigeria!! 5 weeks will go by very fast.
Way to go Steve! It’s so cold up here that I broke a world record getting from the car to my office this morning
Be sure to drop us a line (if possible) to let us know how you’re doing, or if you need anything. Take care and safe travels!
Nice fish,
Incredible that you are catching them at this time of the year. Are you fishing from a boat or form the bank? If from the bank that is even more incredible. Good job.
Rob,
The little Humminbird is great, it tells you how deep the water is, shows what the lake/river bottom looks like and it shows/beeps when a fish is moving. It also tell the temperature and you can take it everywhere you want. I bought it to use on my inflatable boat that I bought recently and it works great. The battery has lasted me about 3 days/trips….I love it!!
Nomad,
Thanks, I’ll have full internet whilst onboard the vessel so I’ll keep in touch, and with a bit of luck I will able to do some deep sea tuna and baracuda fishing.
TexMex,
As far as I know, the weather is much warmer down South and most of the lakes haven’t frozen yet. I was fishing from the bank !!!!
