The Ides of March

I drove on down to the Pyeongtaek River this morning to see if by chance, the bass are getting active yet and the short answer is “no, they’re not.”  At least not in the area where I was fishing.  I got there around 9:45 so I probably started out way too early for this time of year but I had some errands to run later on and morning was the only time I could make it out today.

I was the only one fishing from shore at that time of day, but as you can see in the pics above, there were already four boats out when I arrived.  I take my hat off to those guys because it was still pretty chilly and there was a stiff breeze blowing, which made the fishing uncomfortable.  I fished for close to two hours and didn’t have one single bite, so maybe it’s still a bit early yet (or, as I said, I just started too early this morning).  If the weather holds up, the bass should start getting active within a couple of weeks as they prepare for pre-spawn.  Except for that wind, it was a beautiful day out though.

Looks like I may have wasted my money… Blah!

Maybe if they all keep buying boats, then soon no one will be fishing from shore anymore :)

I can’t wait to get my boat in that river.

Hey Rob, get yourself an anchor for your boat, the winds of spring can be quite strong !!!

Hmmm I may have screwed the pooch on that one. I sent Rob a link for a small, lightweight anchor from Bass Pro and once it arrived, Rob thought it was too small and light for the boat. I guess we’ll find out soon enough

I use a 6kg/12lb dumbell weight and a rope and if the wind is REALLY strong I have a special anchor that some guys at work made for me

  6. Rob says:

I didn’t say that it was too small. I said that it was CUTE! And it is…lol

  7. Rob says:

Seriously Steve, it’s the cutest anchor I’ve ever seen in my life. :) As long as the winds aren’t too bad it should do the trick though.

I hope it isn’t the red folding anchor that comes with line and a storage bag. I made the mistake
of buying one from BassPro and broke a tine on the very first use, plus it was too light, even for my small boat. I did like Steve and bought a dumbbell from the PX, works great and I think that even I won’t be able to break it.

  9. Rob says:

LOL John. Yup, that’s the one!!!

    Ack!!!!

Oh great, the first time we float downstream, I’ll be hearing it
