One of the many things I love about my new job is that I’m less than a 10-minute drive from some great fishing spots, which means I can hop over to the river during lunchtime and get in 30 – 45 minutes of fishing – and that’s exactly what I did today.
As you can see, I finally caught my first bass of the year
. This one was caught on a black, 4-inch Senko fished near shore, right along the rocks. The water is still pretty cold though and the bass aren’t overly aggressive yet but things are definitely improving, day by day.
Nice! All you’re missing in that pic is a spoon for scaling and a fillet knife!
Congrats on your first Bass Nomad, there be no stopping you now
I had another pic where I was holding the fish up but it would have given the exact location away so I went with this one.
Nothing wrong with the pic at all. It’s great!
It’s no use…I recognize that rock!!!
(jk)
I went out to the Pyongtaek River this afternoon around 1 o’clock. Wow have they ever let the water out of that thing!!! It’s down at least 15″ from where it was when I fished it on Sunday. I had zero luck.
Huh that’s odd because at the area I fished, the water level was exactly the same (high as I’ve ever seen it), and the current was strong as ever.
Nomad,
Sweet!!
I’m only hoping the warmup can hold off for 8 more days.
I have one more ski trip to go on.

Yes, I know what you mean. I even commented on this site about how high the water was after going out Sunday. But this afternoon, it was down a lot. Maybe the strong current explains the sudden drop. Anyway, I can show you some pics I took today where you can see the wet rocks high above the waterline.
The lake I fished on Tuesday was also about 12″ high than it was in January, but it’s low by about 3 foot. They drained it by 4~5 foot to do some kind of work around one end of the dam.
Again, great catch Nomad
The water level and current in the river fluctuate mainly due to the opening and closing of the locks down by Asan. On any given day it could go up or down a foot or two. For example, a friend of mine (yea, I actually have one
) launched his boat down by the old PBA area last year with no problem. However, when he he came back later on that day the water level had receeded a couple of feet. Instead of pulling his boat out of the water on a concrete boat ramp, he had to do it by dropping his back tires off into the mud and muck of the river.
The main river (Nam River) down this way is the same. You can catch fish all day, then the next day the water would be almost gone
Rob, you mean you have concrete ramps on your river
I have to launch my boat on some of the worst looking (so called) ramps you’ve ever seen
I wouldn’t exactly call any of the boat ramps on the river “true” boat ramps. Quite frankly, they’re all pretty crappy, but people seem to launch from them regardless. It’s not like they have a choice I guess. Nomad and I almost dumped my buddy’s boat off of the trailer last year when we were pulling it out and one of the trailer wheels ran over a big rock. What a painus in the anus that was! lol
Ack! I remember that one, and getting quite wet in the process
