I headed out to the river this morning, hoping that the front that passed through the other day hadn’t put a damper on the bass fishing. I left the house a little early since it was such a nice day, and this worked out great in the end ( I’ll explain why in a bit).
The spot I went to usually doesn’t get much, if any pressure from the locals but it is popular with a few people I know and two of them, Jim and Ty, were already there when I arrived. (as always, click on the pics to see the full-sized images)
That’s Ty with two of the bass they caught this morning. I weighed the fish on the left – it came in at 3 pounds, 3 ounces, according to my Rapala digital scale. Nice bass, eh? Unfortunately, Jim and Ty had some other stuff to take care of so they left around 10, and I had the spot all to myself ![]()
I tried chatterbaits, crankbaits, and different sizes and colors of Senkos but the only thing the bass were interested in were 4″ black Senkos, fished slowly through the weeds. It’s a good thing I got there when I did because around noon, the wind started blowing something fierce and the bite stopped like someone had turned off a switch.
I stuck around a little while, hoping the wind would die down but after about an hour, I heard a big cup of coffee and a cheese danish calling my name so I packed in in for the day. As I stated in a previous post, the fishing is slowly picking up and in a week or two, things should be hopping everywhere.
Frank, it looks like you did pretty well after Jim and I left. You know on the way to the fishing hole this morning, I told Jim I haven’t caught a 3 pounder yet after fishing here for the last five years. Well what do you know, the pic shows it plus I had a couple of hard core anglers to witness big catch.
Next Saturday I’m going to be out there at 5 so I can beat Jim and Ty to the spot
Nice catch guys, and nice bass Ty! Where are your BDU’s??? I didn’t even recognize you!
Nice job dad
your the best when it comes to fishing
Dad it’s Angela, you know your #1 Daughter. Wow you caught that I bet all the anglers envy you. Way to go Pop’s.
Nomad, I’ll be there at 4:30am
Nice catches everyone, was that 3lber over 50cm ??
Steve,
Didn’t measure it but I don’t think so…
BTW, if you haven’t seen the pics over at Anglerstown, someone caught a 49cm bass out of the river this past weekend. I’d say it’s around 4 1/2 pounds.
Yeah, I saw that earlier, it’s was a nice fish. That the same river you guys fish at ??
I’ve caught two 49cm Bass and several 48′s and 47′s, but just can’t seem to get that 50cm
