Great weekend

I was fishing with my Bass Club on Sunday in our monthly tournamant so I wanted to get to the lake on the Saturday and find where the fish were hiding. This lake (JangCheok Ji, one hour South of Daegu) is one of my favorite lakes especially at this time of year before all the water plants take over in the summer (then it’s frog time). The weather on Saturday was great, no wind and warm. I got 19 bass including a few at 40cm, one at 42cm and another at 43cm.

I arranged to meet a Korean buddy of mine that I haven’t seen for around a year. Here’s a few photos from Saturday.

On Sunday (tournament day) the weather was not as good. The wind was strong and these Portabotes aren’t that good in the wind, good job I had my 6kg anchor. There was around 15~20 boats today (all inflatables) and dispite the wind, the fishing was great. During the tournament I caught 12 bass with the biggest being 40 cm…..good enough for joint 2nd place on the day. The winning fish was 44cm. My co-angler for the day only managed one bass.

Here’s the Bass that got me joint 2nd place.

During the whole of Sunday I caught 26 bass and 45 for the weekend. Here’s the boat back on the trailer at the “so-called” ramp at the end of a “Great Weekend”

Way to go Steve! 45 bass over two days is excellent. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever caught that many in one month :)

    Thanks guys.
Nomad, this is a very special lake and it holds some big girls, but it’s best to fish from a boat to get some good numbers of fish. In the summer it’s 95% covered with water plants (water chestnuts and hydrilla) and the topwater frog fishing is out of this world….all I’ll say is get some strong line and “hang-on”

I think this lake is only 2~3 hours South of you guys, you should give it a try sometime.

    Steve,

Those are some nice bass. I used to fished that lake before when I was in Pusan and it yielded some good sized bass. I see the lake is still producing. You are right on the weeds as during summer time, us non boaters could not fish that lake because of the vegetation covering it up. Man do I want to head back up there. I may do it in early Apr when I go vist Pusan before my trip to Japan.

Congrats on the wonderful weekend. I see the Koreans really like those inflatables. Do they have any kind of floor that allows them to stand? I saw them using them on a FTV a few days ago catching bass and they were standing in those little things.

Hunter, guys stand up in the ones I see out on the river all the time. In fact, I think some of them are made with only one “stand-up” fishing seat, and they scoot across the water pretty well with only a trolling motor.

Tex Mex, anytime you want to fish at that lake, let me know and I’ll come up and meet you there (any excuse to go there  ). The summer time is a great time to fish that lake when it’s covered in weeds…..so long as you have some strong line.

Hunterdave, I bought a small inflatable boat for fishing tiny ponds and streams and it has floor that you put in and inflate. Mine also has 2 wooden boards that go over the inflatable floor and the seat attaches to one of the boards. You could stand up in it, but I feel more safer sitting down….Your right Rob, those things are quite fast with even a 30lb trolling motor.

    Steve,

I will definitely take you up on that.
