John and I headed out to the river again at lunchtime, this time to a different spot. I usually don’t come to this particular area that much anymore because it’s almost always crowded and today was no exception as there were at least six or more Koreans already out there, fishing for bass and as we were fishing, a guy pulled up towing a nice shiny new bass boat. Which, unfortunately for him, he couldn’t launch because someone has put up a fence, blocking the boat ramp – which by the way, is a public boat ramp and I’m guessing one of the local farmers or netters *thinks* he has the rights to that land.
John caught the above bass on a rattle trap, close to shore and it was the biggest one caught today. He then moved on down a ways and caught three more, all on rattle traps, I believe.
I caught all mine on 4 and 5 inch Senkos again, black and watermelon with black specks. The bass are definitely becoming aggressive because they wanted a faster presentation and were nailing the worm right after I gave it a good jerk and then let it sink back down. Between us, we caught 10 bass and missed a few, all in about 45 minutes of fishing. Today was one of those days I wish we could have stayed a few hours because I have a feeling that with the way they were biting, we would have cleaned up. I can tell you one thing; after today, I said the heck with the gym on Friday, we’re heading back out ![]()
Sweeeeet!
Man I hate Osan exercises!
Dave
Hey Nomad,
In that third pic, Is that your new boat?
ROTFL
Yeah Dave, and you’re free to use it any time you want
Congrats guys
How was the wind in your area when you were fishing ?? it was pretty gusty down here.
Don’t know if you guys believe in this or not, but it’s full moon today (Friday)…..and I believe they feed more during, before and after full and new moons
I’m taking my boat out today !!!!
Steve, There was a very light wind and today looks even better
Nomad/Rob,
When you guys fish the senkos, are you all fishing them on a Texas rig or straight on a hook without any weight?
TexMex,
I fish mine weightless, straight on the hook. Always have, and always will
LOL Dave!
Tex Mex, I’ve fished them several different ways, but mainly weightless on a 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook. However, this year I’ve been fishing them wacky-rigged on a 2/0 hook, and have done pretty well with that.
I haven’t tried the wacky rig yet but have heard that it drives them wild. I’ve also read that putting a 3 or 4″ senko on a shaky head jig works very well. I may actually have to change up and try the other two methods.
When I rig it wacky style I use a rubber o-ring like here:
http://www.wackytool.com/how.html
It really saves on the wear and tear of the expensive senko.
You don’t need the fancy tool they sell, just the cap off an old Sharpie marker works well for me. When you hook a fish, the o-ring slides up over the hook and up the line saving the senko from too much damage.
Dave
Yep, I love using the o-ring and a #1 dropshot hook, in fact I fished a Neko rig (as the Korean call it) yesterday and caught 8 in a couple of hours
You’ve been lucky then Nomad….it’s been very gusty here which is not great when fishing from a small boat.
Thanks for the info guys. Well I went out to the Pyongtaek river today with my Brother in Law and good friend from Seoul. Both had never fished in Korea before and both used all my equipment and both kicked my butt. I feel totaly humiliated and sat on a rock of shame after it was all said and done. Although they did not catch as many as Nomad did for lunch, they did catch about 9 nice bass altogether. Me, well I just got skunked. I don’t know what was going on but the juju was totally against me no matter what I did. I am glad I got that day over with and I will hopefully not allow that to happen again. I will never hear the end of it from my Brother in Law who used my son’s Zebco 33 Combo and a small rooster tail to outfish me. I am drinking beer to releive the pain. I have some pics I can send to Rob or Nomad if you all want to see them. One of the pics of a fish was taken on a secret rock ground as Nomad does, which is the rock ground I sat on after it was all done in shame. Hope you all had a better day than I. Oh, and by the way, the forecast said little wind, what the heck happened.
Good reading! And nice fishes! Oh I really wanna do some fishing during my stay in Korea this semester! If there’s someone that can share some good tips for fishing here, or just some good ways of getting in contact with fishing people here, send me an email (SwapSnake@hotmail.com). I cant read Korean, so all these Korean fishing sites just tempt me with their pictures – but gives me no info
Again, good writing! Keep going!
Don’t feel bad Tex Mex. I think we’ve all been there and done that sort of thing. Besides, fishing should be fun and relaxing, which is the main reason I don’t fish tournaments. When it becomes a competetive thing, it takes all of the fun out of it for me, but that’s just me…
Sure, send the pics and I’ll post them, or Nomad can.
Secret rock! ROTFL
Dave, I use an o-ring on my wacky worms as well, and use a similar tool…
TexMex,
Sounds like an excuse to drink beer
We’ve all had our shares of days like that; I’ve certainly had mine but I like going out for the sake of fishing and being outdoors – and the occasional skunk doesn’t bother me.
The weather looked pretty nice out there yesterday (from what I could see) up until noon or so when that front started moving in.
Joel Jönsson, where abouts are you in Korea ??
Steve, I live in Seoul and study at Chung Ang university (Im a Swedish exchange student). But this country isnt that big so if I can get a weekend of fishing somewhere, then im willing to travel.
One question about the fishing here, is spring the best season? Can you catch some in june too?
Joel,
You can catch them all year long, if you’re willing
