That catfish looks like the Europoean version of the catfish, which is called a Wells. When I was in Germany we went fishing to Lake Caspi in Zaragoza, Spain, where there are many Wells catfish that exceeed the 100 pound mark. The Germans love eating that fish and pay some good money for the fish at the local stores. One one of our trips, one of of my frinds hooked one using a crankbait on 20 pound line that towed us around for almost 45 minutes before he was able to get it up where we could see it. That fish easily went about 70 pounds and was as long as our boat. When I bent down to to try and remove the crankbait, it took off and broke the line taking my buddies crank bait with it. That was the largest fish I had ever seen hooked by anyone and we don't know what the hell we would have done with it had we decided to try and land it as a keeper. Nomad, being that you are retired Air Force, you may know about the closed down Air Force Base that was in Zaragoza, Spain by the lake. What an assignment that must have been.

Yea, there's an AF base just over the road

Nomad, there's only a small stream that runs into this lakes and it's dry 90% of the time. This lake then overflows into Nam gang, but the lake level is still down about 3~4 foot from the overflow. Not sure if that river's polluted tho, it's normally very clean and clear ??

Hmmm that's not a good sign. I read recently that there was some sort of contamination in one of the rivers down south there but unless that river or one of its tributaries flow into that lake, that shouldn't have anything to do with it. Are there any factories around that lake?
