Andong

I fished a KBS ProAm bass tournament this past weekend and the weather was cold and rainy with water temperatures in the mid forties. Saturday I caught this bass on a shad swimbait.

I hooked and lost one twice as big due to having too small a hook, duh! Sunday, we didn’t get a bite – that’s the way it goes for me at Andong. I still haven’t been able to figure out the lake. The winner had almost 10 kilos. Maybe next time….

Good deal John! No shame in catching that hog at all. Nice!

It looks like the water is pretty low.

Yeah, nice bass, John. Those bass in Andong sure are healthy fish.

I wish the water in the river was a little lower! It’s up another foot or so from this weekend, and really murky as well. I should have known better by the way the wind was howling outside my office window, but I went out during lunch today anyway…not a single bite.

I did manage to snag and lose a Senko though

Nice Fish! The bass out of that lake always look like they came straight from the taxidermist with all the beautiful colors.

Nice fish. How much did it weigh?

  5. John (the original) says:

    TexMex,
I didn’t weigh it but I guesstimate 3 1/2 lbs. The bass from Andong do have nice coloration and put up a great fight. The water there is clear and you would think that they would have a lighter color but that’s not the case. I just wish I could fish the lake more often.

Very nice looking bass John, you’ve got me all jealous :(

Were you fishing near the boat ramp ?? I’ll be fishing at Andong for a couple of days in May I hope.
Dark/stained water causes the Bass to have light colors, so the clearer the water the better/darker the bass’s coloration will be.

    Steve,
We were about five miles from the ramp, my partner had a nice bass boat and we could fly down the lake. In May, the best areas, from my limited experience, would be the very backs of the many smaller coves off the main lake channel. Wacky rigged cut tail Senkos in Pumpkinseed or Cherry seem to work the best.
I plan on hitting Singal on Saturday, the conditions seem right for catching some big ones.

Five miles you say….Hmm, that should only take me about one hour in my boat
    Thanks for the tips

Good luck on Saturday John, and everyone else for that matter
