I woke up this morning around 3:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep (someone must have been telling me something
) so I decided to head on out to the Pyongtaek river for an hour of fishing before work, and buddy, I’m glad I went. It was still dark when I arrived, but it was light enough for the bass to see my Senkos because as you can see below, they were definitely biting this morning. (As always, click on pics to see the full-sized images)
The above two pics are both of the first bass that I caught. I thought I had snagged a rock because my worm stopped dead…no tug, no tap-tap-tap, nothing…but when I started shaking the rod tip to loosen the hook, the “snag” started taking out drag and what you see is what I ended up with. “Big Momma!”
I caught three more, and lost three as well. After 30 minutes, my hands were so cold and numb that I couldn’t even hold the rod any more so I had to get into the car and warm up…which I hated to do since the fish were biting and I only had so much time before I had to be at work (and yes, the thought of calling in “sick” did cross my mind
). All in all, I have to say that was one heck of a way to spend an hour before work and as the weather warms up, it’ll be something I’m going to do a lot more of. All I was using this morning were 4-inch, black Senkos. Oh, and I may as well leave you with a nice sunrise pic.
That’s what I’m talking about! Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise (and a good fisherman!).
I don’t know about all that but it sure does make him lucky sometimes
Alright Nomad, that’s what you call a good morning’s fishin’
The fish in the first 2 photos are very nice and fat, looks like she’ll be getting ready to spawn soon. What was the water temperatures ??
Nomad, don’t forget those gloves in the morning!!!
Steve,
Thanks…I’m not sure what the water temperature was but it was warmer than the outside air, I can tell you that much!
Rob,
As you can see in the above pics, I did have gloves, albeit thin pilot gloves…and once I got them a bit wet from landing that first fish, that’s all she wrote.
Sure looks like the elusive 50 cm bass to me. That’s a nice healthy lookin’ bass! What a way to start a day, nicesu.
John,
Unfortunately, I didn’t have my scale or tape measure with me but yeah, I bet that one was close…darned close. I do know that’s the biggest bass I’ve caught over here.
And, I know what I’ll be doing the next time I wake up early like that
Nice fish Nomad. There’s nothing better than going to work in the morning with stinky fingers.
That’s right, Tex Mex…I was so happy to have caught that one that I didn’t wash my hands all day
Rob/Nomad,
That boat ramp on the river, is that the one by the new building under construction that looks like a revolving restaurant or an air traffic control building? I saw several ramps to include one that looked new and was roped off. I’ll be out there tommorrow at 0515 hitting the river. I went out yesterday and caught five (not as big as the ones you all are catching) between 0545 and 0700. After that, the wind started and it was all over; not even one single bite after that. Maybe I’ll see you guys down there.
Tex Mex,
Yep, that’s the one. And what you describe about the wind, that’s the same thing I’ve been experiencing lately – once it kicks up, the bass turn off (except for today, that is). Rob and I went out today in the boat…I’m too beat to make a decent post here on the blog but it’ll be up tomorrow
. We had a great day, one of the best days I’ve ever had fishing, period. Good luck tomorrow, hope they’re still as aggressive and active as they were today!
Regarding tomorrow – I don’t know if Rob’s going out or not, but I want to spend some time with my daughter so I won’t be going back out…plus as of right now, I’m plumb fished out! I never thought I’d say that, but there it is
I’m sure you can fish again tomorrow Nomad…I wish I could fish for you
Can’t wait to see yours and Robs new photos
Good luck out there Tex Mex.
Yes Tex, that’s the one. There’s also another one just down the road a ways. Good luck!!!
Nomad, I was beat last night, but would do it all over again today if I could. Thanks for coming along!
Steve,
I would have loved to go out again, really, but I promised my daughter I’d take her to the movies and out to lunch. In a few years, hanging out with Dad won’t be cool so I have to take advantage of the time while I have it.
Rob,
WTF are you thanking me for?
Thank you for taking me along! Was it me or did yesterday seem like an awfully short day?
I couldn’t believe it when you said it was 3 o’clock…
Nomad, lol, my daughter is only 3 years old so I’ve still got a few more years, plus I’m going to try and get her to fish with me…..2 birds, one stone
Days are never long enough when I’m fishing….just one more cast !!!
OK, I’m going to have a look at what you guys caught yesterday.
Nomad, yes it went by pretty fast didn’t it? We fished for a good nine or ten hours yesterday, and if the wind hadn’t picked up I could have stayed until dark, no problem. Remind me to wear some sun block next time though. My face and knees are radiating some serious heat today….
LOL Rob. You need one of those hats like I have…sure, it may look funny, but it does a good job protecting my dome. I’ve learned my lesson by getting totally fried during the summer, being out at Idong in that sun all day.
