“Not again!” you’re saying to yourself but yes, I got up early once again this morning and headed out to the river with Senkos in hand. It was cold and it was foggy but the bass didn’t care – they just wanted to eat.
Once again, the above two pics are of the same fish, which was the first one I caught on a 5″ Senko, black with blue flakes. This time, I had my tape measure and my scale – 19 inches long (that’s 48.26 centimeters for you metric types), and it weighed in at 3 pounds, 12 ounces. Big Momma II
In about an hour of fishing, I caught a total of seven fish, one of which was so small I was surprised it was even able to grab hold of the 4″ Senko I had on the line (and no, I didn’t bother taking a picture of that one). You tell me; is this a great way to start the new week or what?
Damn nice fish Nomad!!!
Thanks, Rob! Not quite 50cm, but darned close…she’ll be 50cm next year
Man I love this river and I haven’t even fished it yet
I guess I’d better bring lots of senkos with me
“Again”…WTG Nomad (‘clapping smilie’)
Way to go Frank!!! Yeah I know your day and week is going to be good. Hey I’m going with you tomorrow morning.. I wish! I think I’m going on Wed. though around ten or so.
Steve,
I love that river too!
Ty,
Good luck out there
Steve, the pre-spawn bite on the river has been great the past couple of years, but I’ll be very surprised if it lasts that much longer, albiet pleasantly surprised.
I told Nomad last night that in another month it’ll be back to normal, catching an occassional decent bass along the shoreline with the norm being one pounders. Here’s hoping that I’m wrong, in which case I’ll gladly eat two servings of crow!! lol I really think the pattern will change though, as it always does, and it’ll be much harder to find those Big Momma type bass in a few weeks…
Ack!
You jinxed me now, Rob! I’ll never catch that 50cm bass…
Sheeee-it Nomad, with the way you’ve been going you’ll probably catch that 50 centimeter bass tomorrow morning before most of us are out of bed yet!!!! LOL
LOL Rob!
And you know what us Cleveland fans say: There’s always next year!
I have a feeling that you’re going to have to set a larger goal for next year.
Well, I have to meet this goal first, don’t I!
Nomad,
You and Rob are on fire. I’ve been catching then but not as many and as big as the ones you guys are all catching. We did find a flat last week that we caught some nice ones from, unfortunately we found it about an hour before we had to leave as Momma had set a noon curfew on me. I will go out there this weekend and hopefully we can catch some big ones like you all have, that is if Rob didn’t jinx us all:) Actually, we were talking about the same thing on Saturday and agree with Rob that we probably will see the hot action taper off in several weeks. Hope we are all wrong.
Thanks Rob
The fish will continue to feed even well into the summer, we’ll just have to find what it is they want to eat and where they are hiding.
Nomad, I’m looking for my first 50cm also this year, hopefully next month on the river with you guys
We have to prove Rob’s theory wrong!!
They’ll feed into the summer for sure, and even into fall, and winter, but the patterns will change. Right now they’re right up on the banks and holding tight to grass and rocks in shallow water. Although you can pretty much always find bass in those types of areas out on the river, those Big Momma’s will head out to deeper water after the spawn I’m afraid.
However, I hope like hell that I’m wrong because I don’t want you guys hunting me down to kick my ass because I jinxed everybody!!!!
Tex, do you drive a white SUV by chance? My wife and I were headed home from Humphreys (the back way) around noon on Saturday and a white SUV followed us from the river up to highway 38, looked to be headed for the toll gate. For some reason I thought it might be you heading back to Seoul….
Nice job again Nomad!!
BTW, that rock in the second pic looks familiar.
Dave
LOL Dave….that’s a very astute observation on your part
Rob,
I have a gray/green colored Volvo SUV. I did run into John and his little dog as he was waiting to pick up his fishing partner on his boat. I also saw Khalil and some other folks I know from fishing at the Andong tournaments. Everyone was catching them but again, nothing compared to the way you all have been slaying them big mommas.
Tex, the one we saw was a white Bronco, had a couple of guys in it who looked like they had been fishing and were heading back to Seoul, thought maybe it was you.
