Landing Lunkers team meeting and fish (for Tex Mex)

This idea started in another post, but I thought I’d start another post dedicated to the idea. Let’s all have a get togther for fishing and beer drinking before Tex Mex leaves Korea at the beginning of August. All suggestions welcome.

1. Place

2. Date(s)

3. Costs

4. anything else we can think of.

At my current schedule, I will be in Korea (and available for a Landing Lunkers tournament, if everyone is interested) between the following dates…..

5th May ~ 24th May (week days only)
27th June ~ 19th July (any time)

    I’m game for anything except 2-4 May…

Costs? Are you talking about the costs involved with a night out on the town with Rob? Better bring some serious cabbage…lol ;)

Seriously, I would really like to hook up with you guys for at least one good day of fishing. And if we’re talking about up this way, we have several options. We have bank fishing Idong. Yum Chi and Gosam have boats for rent. And of course we have the river….

  2. Nomad says:

    Steve,

Since I recently started a new job, I don’t have a lot of vacation time saved up, so weekdays during the month of May is out for me.

  3. Steve says:

In that case Nomad, let’s make it a weekend during 27th June ~ 19th July. I will travel up on Friday evening, have a few beers, have a big fishing day/tournament on Saturday, and then a big piss-up on Saturday night. Then I’ll fish again Sunday morning and drive home Sunday afternoon.

Here’s the only weekends I’ll be able to manage.

    June 28th & 29th
    July 5th & 6th
    July 12th & 13th

  4. Rob says:

    “a big piss-up”

    ROTFL :)

We should have Friday July 4th off as well Steve…

By the way, have you ever had to climb up the derrick of an oil rig? I’ve been watching too much Discovery Channel…lol

  5. Steve says:

July 4th, 5th & 6th….that sounds cool. How busy will it be up there that weekend??

“have you ever had to climb up the derrick of an oil rig?”

Not yet, and hopefully I won’t have to!!! The rig I’m on doesn’t have a derrick, but the flare boom is very high.

Rob, here’s a photo of the rig with the flare boom at the right side.

…and here is a shot from the bottom of the flare boom looking up

July 5 sounds good as it is a weekend holiday. Only thing is that is probably going to be hot as heck by then. Also how about making it a bank fishing deal at Idong lake so maybe a few others can join us. Just some suggestions. My butt is currrently TDY at Camp Casey, the sin city of Korea. I can’t take any more of this beer drinking:)

  7. Rob says:

Speaking of beer drinking, I’ll probably be hungover on July 5th. LOL How many people are we talking about? Yum Chi Adoshi has at least five boats, and I”m pretty sure that we could get them all if we did it on a weekday, say the 4th. I’m game for anything though, just a suggestion…

  8. Steve says:

Good idea Rob. I’d prefer the 4th for fishing and then the “piss-up” on the night of the 4th, but I can make it on any of those days.

I am also up for bank fishing or boat fishing. Tex, I have a spare seat in my boat and I also have a one man inflatable boat that I can bring along, or we could use the boats that Rob suggested, or we can do both ideas.

Let’s see how many people are interested. Post away if you want to join in.

  9. Rob says:

Ack! That’s pretty freaking steep! On the Discovery Channel, they had to put something on top of the derrick so that they could drill for oil. There were two guys up there trying to bolt it in and it looked pretty dangerous, yet cool at the same time. Did you take that first shot from the helicopter?

  10. Steve says:

Nup, I’m living on a floatel and they had to move us to the other side of the FPSO (rig) while they do some diving work, so when they pulled away I got a few photos.
We have a drilling rig a few miles East of us that is drilling the oil that will come on board our rig. It’s kinda cool when I think of it…I just wish I was fishing

  11. Nomad says:

Well, needless to say you wouldn’t get me on one of those things. I have a fear of heights and the 4th or 5th floor is pretty much my limit.
Yeah, it’s going to be smoking out there around July but I’m game for whatever you guys come up with.

  12. Rob says:

Like all jobs I’m sure that it has its drawbacks, but I think it would be cool as hell. Any worries about pirates or anything like that? I think most of that type activity takes place on the other side of Africa though…

  13. hunterdave99 says:

Rob, who is Yum Chi Adoshi and how are these boats you are talking about.
Camping on Idong on the 4th might be kind of fun, having our own beer, barbecue, and fireworks show.
Although the family will probably want to go on base for the base show instead. I heard that Camp Humphries is laying out some cash for a nice show this year also.

  14. Rob says:

Hunter Dave, Yum Chi Adoshi is the caretaker of Yum Chi Lake, which is located approximately ten miles southeast of Camp Humphreys. The boats are ok, but a little on the unstable side. Even still, they’re worth the money imo, and if you can get out there on a weeday when it’s not crowded, it’s a really nice Lake to fish.

  15. Steve says:

Rob, can we put our boats in Yum Chi lake?? Do these other boats come with trolling motors??

“Any worries about pirates or anything like that?”

Yep, right now Nigeria is extremely dangerous for pirates and on-land kidnappings, but we are 70 miles from the nearest land and have several lookout boats and good radar systems….so we are quite safe.

  16. Rob says:

I’ve never asked about private boats, so maybe, but I’ve never seen any out there though. Yes, they come with trolling motors.

    Ack! Pirates!

  17. Steve says:

Are there any places for camping/pitching tents at Yum Chi Lake ??

If adoshi has five boats, and we get upto 10 people, we could rent them all and fish there on July 4th, 5th and/or 6th. Like I said before, I am available on any of those dates.

  18. Rob says:

Not really any place for camping that I know of. I’m available all three days as well, but I doubt that we’d be able to get “all” of his boats on Saturday and Sunday. Friday the 4th should be no problem though. Gosam is closer and also has boats, but I’ve never done much good out of that lake for some reason.
