I had the opportunity to fish a KSA ProAm tournament this past weekend and had a great time.
The fishing was outstanding, most fish were pre-spawn and averaged 4-5 pounds. We caught them all on wacky rigged Kut tail worms in Pumpkinseed and Watermelon fished very slow. The water was very clear and it was exciting to see smaller males building beds and cruising the shallows.
Six of the fish we caught were within 2 ounces of each other in weight. We ended up culling a couple of 4 pounders, what a good feeling. I caught a kicker that weighed over 5.
We ended up weighing in 5 fish at 10130 grams, which works out to be about 22.3 pounds. Walt C was my pro partner, shown here with his second place check. We missed taking first by a pound, which didn’t bother me – I was just happy to catch big fish!
Water temps were in the mid to upper 60s, how I would love to be on the lake once the females get on the beds.

Ack! Sorry John, did not see your post or I would have waited. I used Live Writer from home, should have checked first.
Great catch, and great weekend by the way!!!
Also, some of the bass are already on their beds; some are even off. Mike and I spent the majority of the morning on Sunday looking for them, and found at least five active ones, and a whole slew of dormant ones. It was a truly amazing site to see as I had never witnessed anything like that with my own eyes before. All I can say is Wow!
Although I did manage to catch one after terrorizing it for twenty minutes, I left the others alone. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with it, just a personal preference, that’s all. Now if I had come across a ten pound bass sitting on one I may have had a sudden change of heart though… LOL
I wouldn’t bed fish during a tournament because those fish wouldn’t end up spawning as they’re released miles away from their beds. Just catch, picture, and release.
I too had a great time after the daily fishing was over, what with the great food, drink, and company – I just wish I could remember more of it! Hey, I heard you had a video of Saturday night, I’m sure it’s not something I want to see on YouTube!
Eh, video? What video? LOL
Damn Walt ratted on me didn’t he? LOL
Nothing like a good video!
You weren’t dancing around with a lampshade on your head, singing Korean pop songs, were you, John?
Actually John, I had a feeling that you and Walt were going to do well in the tournament and my plan was to use it
to extort youas leverage to encourage you to donate your prizes to Nomad and myself. LOLThose are some nice fish John. Man, I can’t wait to get out there to Andong and drink beer and eat good food and ofcourse go fishing. What is there not to like about an Andong trip.
Outstanding John on getting second place and big bass, great photos also. Was it the biggest bass of the tournament??
Hey Rob, send a copy of the video to me before you post it on you-tube
What is there not to like about an Andong trip?
Absolutely Tex. I could not agree more, and can’t believe that it took me three years to finally get back down there. WTF was I thinking? lol
LOL Steve!
Yea John, that is one hell of a bag of fish by any standards. There were only two or three 20-pound + catches at the Bass Master Classic this year. Again, nice freaking job. Awesome!
Rob,
Does that mean you’ll attend the international tournament coming up soon? Really looking forward to that.
Yes, I think I will Tex. How about you?
I wish I could attend it also, but I think the date for it is May 25th..the same day I fly back to Nigeria
The International will be 7-8 June, practice the 7th and tournament the 8th. Their will be a limited number of slots, usually around 30.
The tournament on Memorial Day weekend 24-25 May is a Pro tournament.
I will be in Nigeria on June 7th and 8th also, so I’ll miss yet another tournament
BTW, congratulations on your second place Walt and John
On the bright side Steve, you have the next four weeks to fish anytime
your wife will let youyou want, which is pretty sweet if you ask me.I’ll be there for sure if Walt doesn’t give up my slot. Wouldn’t miss it for nothing. Walt, what price are they asking being it will be two days instead of one like last year.
Tex, I will be meeting with KSA tonight to talk about it. I will let you know later.
I wish Rob…I have less than 3 weeks left and my little girl is still in hospital, maybe she’ll be able to come home on Thursday or Friday, but I do have this weekend of fishing at Kunsan
I’ll be doing tons of fishing locally after my Kunsan weekend (if the wife allows
)
Oh man, I hope she gets to come home soon Steve. Poor little thing…
Walt,
Congratulations to you and John, way to go!
Steve,
My prayers are with your daughter, hope she recovers soonest.
Steve,
Didn’t know your little one was sick, I pray she’ll be getting better soon. Did anyone set a date for the mass gathering on the Anseong river?
OK, Here’s the deal for the International tournament at Andong on 8 June 2008. Cost will be 50,000 won. No practice day with a Pro. Pro and partner will be picked Sunday morning. Saturday night they will have a SamKapSal BBQ around 1800 at the Opening Ceremony Parking lot. Registration time Sunday should be at 0600, weigh-in from 1400-1430, Award Ceremony 1500. There are 30 slots, if anyone is interested, please e-mail me ( walt.cannon@gmail.com ) and I will need some information from you. I hope I will see and meet alot of you there, pass the word.
Thanks for the prayers guys, and good luck if your fishing the international tournament. I’ll make it next year
Good luck at Kunsan Steve…
Thanks Rob, be watching out for a big post with lots of photos on Monday
