Greetings all, and welcome back Nomad. I had the opportunity to head down to Andong this past weekend with a great bunch of people and had a blast. The weather, food, beer, company etc. were all great, and the fishing wasn’t half bad either. I caught this little fella from the bank not more than twenty minutes after arriving. I don’t know what it weighed, but it measured twenty inches. She was the only bass I caught on Friday, but not a bad way to start out a weekend I say.
On Saturday, a friend and I went out in Ruben’s boat and did really well. We caught approximately fifteen bass, most of which were in the 2-3 pound range, but four of ‘em were what I’d call really nice bass (for me anyway), and one of them was a personal best that measured 22 inches and weighed 4.9 pounds (first pic on left below). The two pics to the right are of another good fish that I caught just across the lake from the campground early Saturday morning. Actually, I think it may have been a tad bigger than the personal best one that I caught later on in the day, but at that time of the morning I was barely awake after having only slept for about two hours the night before and didn’t even think about weighing or measuring it. Doh! Plus I was slightly hungover, which also explains the lack of expression on my face in the pics (hurt’n for certain). LOL
The best part of the weekend for me was on Sunday morning when we got into an area just loaded with beds though. To me, that was just amazing. It was a real treat to be able to see them bedding with my own eyes. Although I did manage to catch one after about twenty minutes of dropping my bait on her nose, we left the rest of them alone to do their thing. Still, it was just an awesome experience, one that I’ll remember for some time to come. Great weekend…
John P. and Walt came in second in the tournament on Sunday by the way, weighed in an awesome bag of fish at a little over 22 pounds. Basically, they had a bag full of my “personal best” fish. WTF? LOL I’m sure that he’ll be making a post later on.
What a coincidence, Rob! I saw tons of beds this weekend as well. Some were full, some were empty. Some had males, some had females in them and in a few cases, it seemed like the whole darned family was there.
Glad you all, including John and company, kicked some butt down there this past weekend. What a nice weekend too, eh?
ROTFL Nice comparison!!!
Excellent weekend, although a tad on the hot side Saturday, but I’m not complaining…
Rob,
Looks like you smoked them again. Sunday was just perfect for fishing with overcast skies and I had to stay home to help with the children’s day festivities at Hannam. Oh well, they should get even hungrier soon after the spawn.
LOL Nomad….ROTFL
I sure wish I could of made it up there….it looks like you all had a fantastic time.
I think I will try and sneak in a 2 day trip to Andong before I have to head back to Nigeria at the end of the month.
Looking at the tails of the fish in the last 3 photos, it looks like they are almost through spawning. Another week or 2 of this good weather and the fishing might be a whole lot tougher.
Awesome Rob, here writes a jealous English guy !!!!
Thanks guys! Sunday was most excellent, but we could only fish for part of the day because we had to break down camp, etc. It sure did suck to have to leave…
One note: if you’re heading down to Andong to fish from a boat, make damn sure that you have a net with you. Yea, I know what most of you are thinking: “that’s common sense Rob.” Well, unfortunately for me it wasn’t, and we lost a couple of really nice fish right at the boat. Sigh…
