Early Morning Bass, Part 8

It’s Friday, and it’s time for yet another installment of “Early Morning Bass.”  I woke up at 3:45 this morning, wide awake (you all know what that means) so I turned on the coffee pot and got ready to head on out to the river.  It was a great morning, yet again, and I’m glad to announce that the bass were cooperating – at least until the wind started blowing.

I started out at one spot, using nothing but a wacky rig (5 inch Senko, black) and caught three right off the bat, one of which was smaller than the worm.  The wacky rig didn’t last long as I got it snagged in the rocks so I switched to my conventional weightless method, both with 4 and 5 inch Senkos.

I’ve been exploring the last month or so, staying away from the “hot” spots because, well, that’s where everyone fishes.  Instead, I’ve been driving along, looking for areas that could and should have bass, yet that are a little off the beaten path or hard to get to.  For example, this morning I had my chest waders and walked across a breeding channel to an island where I’ve never seen anyone fish (because unless they also have waders, they can’t get to it) and I did real well there, fishing along the rocks and thick weeds close to the shore.  I caught a total of eight bass and I have no doubt I would have caught more but the wind started kicking up pretty hard shortly after the sun rose and once that happened, the bass totally turned off.

How many did Ty catch? Don’t tell me you didn’t take him again. Seriously Ty, just wait outside Nomad’s apartment around 0430 in the morning, and follow him. That’s what I do. ;)

    Nice job!!

    Ty,

You definitely need chest waders to go where I go…almost all the areas I’ve been fishing at are unreachable from the shore. And it’s getting worse by the day because that green, thick algae crap is growing like crazy and I have it all over my lure just about every time I reel in :(

    Steve,

As my recent illness unfortunately proved, I’m quite stoppable

Nomad, are you feeling 100% again now since your illness ??

  6. Nomad says:

Yes sir, I sure am, thanks for asking :)
