I’ve been wanting to hit one of the local lakes after all that river fishing lately so this morning at 4:30, I headed out to Yeom Chi which is about 30 minutes away from here. I arrived just before first light, put on my chest waders, grabbed two rods and started walking the shore. The bass started biting as soon as it got light and every fish I caught was close to shore, hiding in the reeds/weeds or among the numerous branches and downed trees that are in the water (As always, click on the pics to see the full-sized images).
I did surprisingly well this morning and caught 12 bass – the four above were the biggest of the bunch and the rest ranged from dinks to the 1 to 1 1/2 pound range. The lake is still high so I put my bag on shore and walked out in the water, parallel to the bank and the only time I came back with a fish to take a picture was when I caught one like the ones above. Yeom Chi doesn’t have any monster bass (that I know of) but the 2nd and 3rd pics are bigger fish than I usually catch out of there – the average is usually between 1 and 2 pounds so I was quite happy to catch a couple of nice ones. All I fished with this morning was a 5 inch wacky-rigged Senko (only one small bass on that) and a 4 inch black Senko on which I caught all the rest. By 7, 7:30, it was over and done with…the sun was hitting the water plus the wind started kicking up pretty good. I hung around for a while longer just in case but no dice – but no problem…other fishermen started showing up in droves so it was time for me to head home anyway. If the weather cooperates, I’m going to try Idong next Saturday to see if I can at least catch me some of those huge bluegill and hopefully, some bass as well. For those of you that went out today, I hope you had good luck as well…it was a beautiful morning to be out fishing.
Congrats Nomad! We’ll have to rent one of adoshi’s boats out there soon…
Name day and I’m there. I’d love to fish that lake from a boat…I still owe you from that lake on 34 last year
Great Job again Nomad! I see your trying different places this year.
Ty,
You’ve been to this lake before, it’s the one out 45 past Camp Humphreys.
The bass in the 3rd photo is a nice fat bass. What was the water temps ?? have these bass spawned yet ??
Congrats Nomad
Hmmm not sure what the water temperature was but if I had to guess, I’d say mid to upper 60′s or maybe even a bit warmer. It felt comfortable out there in my waders. No idea if they’ve spawned out there or not yet.
