Last night, Rob and I were shooting a few emails back and forth and I was mentioning that after those heavy rains we had on Sunday and how high and muddy the river was because of the rain, I was probably going to wait a few days before going out again. “The fish still have to eat,” Rob shot back. Indeed, they do, Rob.
Once again, I woke up early and figured, “what the heck…I can at least go out and try some spinner baits and rattle traps, maybe the vibration and flash will get a few fish.”
The river was still very high this morning, and as you can see in the last pic, muddy as well so to be honest, I didn’t expect to catch anything at all, period. So imagine my surprise when on the very first cast with a 4 inch Senko (black with blue flakes), I had a bite (which I promptly lost, LOL). I threw out again and a few casts later, caught my first fish of the morning.
I ended up catching these three plus four dinks, and I must have lost four or five fish as well. And all of them were on 4 inch Senkos, black with blue flakes. I did try the spinner bait, half-heartedly, a few times but after making a few casts, I always went right back to my trusty Senkos
. Yes, Rob, the fish do still have to eat. Amazing. It’s days like today that make me realize that the longer I fish, the less I understand these bass.
Way to go Nomad!!!
You’ll be amazed about how well a bass can see even in the muddiest of water. Great catches again Nomad, I’m hoping to go early tomorrow morning and fish for the whole day.
Rob,
Thanks, buddy
Steve,
Yeah I am pretty amazed…good luck tomorrow, I just checked KMA and the USFK weather site, suddenly both are calling for rain and strong winds tomorrow
I use BBC weather and W365 and they are the most accurate for me. They both say sunny but windy….I better take my anchor
Nomad,
I was noticing on one of the fish you caught that you use a pretty large hook to fish the Senkos wacky style. I had always used smaller octopus hooks and was getting hung up a lot with them. Don’t know how you do it with even a bigger hook. Nice fish as always. You are getting spoiled with the great luck you have been having.
Tex, I could be wrong but I think he was fishing them regular weightless style with a 3/0 hook this morning, not wacky…
Actually, it was a 2/0 hook, which is the size I use for the 4 inch Senkos and yes, I was fishing them Texas rigged, weightless. I don’t like using a wacky rig from the shore at that river as there are too many rocks…
Guess the hook must have slipped down because on the first picture it looked like the worm was hooked wacky style.
Rob: You still heading to Andong in June?
TexMex,
This is what I use for my wacky rigs:

Tex Mex, I had originally planned to go but am now leaning towards not going. Are you still going?
Those hooks look great Nomad, I just ordered some of these yesterday

Rob,
I signed four of us up so I will definitely be there. I always look forward to getting out to Andong, so I am excited about the trip. Hope you change your mind and meet us out there for some beer, food and fun. Wish Ole Nomad would come along also.
TexMex,
There are reasons I don’t go to Andong…I sent you an email to your yahoo account…
Good morning Nomad….looks like we are both up early to go fishing
Steve,
I hope your morning goes better than mine did
I went back to that rocky area where I got skunked last week and promptly got skunked again…
I thought I was going to get skunked, it took me a while to catch anything this morning. I’ll post some photos in the morning.
