With a little help from this 4.39 pound smallmouth bass, my brother-in-law won his local club tournament last weekend. Nice fish Gary!

That is a nice fish…
Hey! I just noticed something. You’re wearing my hat Gary!!! LOL
Congrats on the win Gary
That’s a very nice looking smallie….I wish there was some of them in Korea as I’ve heard they put up a great fight for their size
Hi!
Really nice fish! Such great colors!
Sorry for posting this here but I am getting desperate:
My father is coming to visit me in Korea during 16th-25th of June. We really want to try fishing in Korea for a couple of days. I’ve been trying to get in contact with fishing people during my semester in Seoul but its hard. All my english speaking Korean friends are citypeople to the bone and havent been any help at all in my search. I’ve found alot of pages on the internet but most of them is in Korean, and when I send an email in english they dont answer.
Do any of you guys know any english speaking fishing guides in South Korea?
Maybe you yourself would to it for a reasonable amount of money?
Me and my father really want to go. It doesnt matter if its just one day but we rather do 2-4 days. We are used to early mornings and bad weather and so on. In Sweden we tried most ways of fishing, but rather avoid flyfishing
If we are able to fish for more than one day, then traveling to any place in Korea is no problem.
Would be megasuper grateful for any kind of help! Contact me on SwapSnake@hotmail.com or 01068727727
Thanks!
Joel
Joel,
Did you try emailing the webmaster at Anglerstown? (webmaster@anglerstown.com) He speaks good English and may be able to help you out…
The only guide I know is James Card, you can reach him at james@jamescard.net.
Yeah I emailed both these without answer. Gonna try calling Anglerstown. Its been 4 month without fishing for me now, way to long
And all the pictures of Korean on the web doesnt make it easier. Take this site for example
Joel, normally Mr Hwang at Anglerstown answers very quick. Try emailing webmaster@anglerstown.com again and mention that Nomad and I both sent you
As you are in Seoul and I am in the furthest part South of Korea, I can’t be much help, but I feel your pain about not been able to fish…..good luck.
Ok I will send another email after this weekend (its weekend after all).
But Steve you being in the furthest part of South Korea is no problem if you could offer 2-3 days of fishing
Thanks for response anyway guys!
Joel, I wish I could, but I’m flying to Nigeria in a few days time and will be out of Korea for close to 5 weeks….Good luck.
Oh sounds like a good trip! Hope it’ll a succes then! Im gonna keep trying to reach anglerstown.
By the way. Do you guys now any area with alot of fishing stores here in Seoul? I imagine that some stuff should be so much cheaper here in Asia than in Sweden. So far I visited a few random stores, one close to namdaemun and one at Yongsan, but I figure maybe there’s some places you would recommend more than other?
Joel,
I personally don’t know of any fishing stores in the Seoul area since I rarely go up that way. I would suggest having some of your English speaking Korean friends check on-line for you to find a place near you…
Joel, that fish wasn’t caught here in Korea by the way. That one was caught in the States in KY. What type of fishing do you want to do? Bass fishing, ocean fishing???
Rob, my father competes as a so called specimen hunter. Which means that he and his team try to catch big fishes of twenty different species over a year. We like to try out different species!
Therefore, fishing any specimen that we dont got in Sweden would be great. We actually dont got Bass, only Perch (I guess you could say that Perch and Zander is a bit like bass
) Bass fishing would be great! Also Ive looked at some Korean pages for Snakehead fishers, look cool too.
Joel, sounds like you have a pretty cool Father.
For bass fishing, Andong is by far the best place to go in my opinion, but you’d need a boat. Although I’ve heard that there are people down there who do guided tours, I don’t think their english is so great. Let me ask around to see what I can find out. Did you ever get a reply from James?
Snakehead fishing would be pretty cool too. That would definitely be unique, plus I have heard that they put up a heck of a fight.
Havent got any emails back from either anglerstown or James. And I thought I sent really nice and polite mails :/
(And yeah its a hobby, there’s no fulltime fishermens in Sweden
)
Thank you for asking around for me! Really nice! Most of the Korean English/Konglish is so-so, but if theyre able to communicate just a little, then we can figure out the rest
Yeah I like my fathers hobby and try to go with him when my studies/girlfriend allows it
Joel, if you can get me a 40% discount on a Volvo, I’ll take you myself!
Just joking… I’ll let you know what I find out.
Sounds good, maybe I can get you a IKEA furniture named something like Grundtal or Rationell Variera
:D
I got in contact with Angerstown over phone today, the guy was really nice! He said that he will look if any members of anglerstown is going fishing the weekend my dad is here, and maybe ask them to bring us. Hope he finds anything
Joel,
You should be able to find some offshore fishing day trips from the Inchon area. Down here at Osan Air Base, the outdoor recreation office is starting up day trips for ocean fishing in the Inchon area starting in June. They used to fish a little south of here, but will be going north this year due to the oil spill. You could give them a call at 031-661-4007, tell them your situation, and ask for their english speaking contact in the Inchon area. I don’t know if they will give it to you or not, but you can give it a try.
Dave
Thanks Dave! I also got some information today from a tourist agancy about fishing near Inchon, something called Daebudo Fishing Area, or something like that. Daebudo have a homepage, http://www.daebudo.com, but I dont understand anything there and didnt find anything about fishing when clicking random
Anyway it was quite cheap so maybe we’ll give it a try if nothing else comes up.
The thing is that I think we rather do Bass/Snakehead or something inland, from the pictures Ive seen on the net about seafishing, it didnt look that interesting
I also got an answer from James Card, who seems to offer only flyfishing, which is the one kind of fishing me and my father kind of avoid, but maybe it could be fun to try it out in Korea. If I dont find any Lurefishing/Angling that is
Again people: Thanks for all the response!
Ah and by the way! I’ve done even more research! Found 4 different fishing stores here in Seoul. I must say that the ones I’ve looked into was very interesting!
Anyway hope to hear more from ya’ll!
So much stuff was different from the ones we use in Europe, especially the carp stuff! I dont think I’ve ever seen carpfishers in Europe use a double-hook-boltrig-tackle?! I have my doubts about some of the stuff here but probably I just dont know how the Koreans use them to their full advance
