I decided to take my little tiny boat out for my last fishing trip before I have to go and make some more money (to pay for my obsession – fishing). I went to a small river that I know has some big bass in it and I was throwing jigs into the overhanging bushes and trees. I managed to land these 2 bass, but lost/missed several others
Then as the wind got too unbearable for my inflatable (even with the 6kg anchor), I decided to pack the boat away and go to the nearby lake (which is my favorite and closest to home lake).
I was fishing frogs over the water-chestnuts and pads and caught these 2 snakeheads and one bass.
I wasn’t trying to catch the snakeheads, but they sure put up a great fight.

Steve,
Looks like you had yourself a good time. Damn, that baby was almost 50cm, wasn’t it? So close!
Yep, 47cm / 18.5 inch……that big one is still hiding from me
and now I’ll have to wait atleast 5 weeks to catch it
Don’t worry Steve, you’ll get that fish
Darn! Four weeks have gone by already???
Nice fish! Are you still planning on going down to Andong anytime this summer?
That’s a nice little boat by the way Steve. It may be small, but it looks like it’s setup really nice. I need to buy or make some sort of rod holder for the porta boat as well.
Yep 4 weeks up already
but some good news, I was supposed to fly out tomorrow (Sunday) but there was a mistake with the tickets and I’ll be flying on Monday instead, so I only have to work for 27 days
I’m hoping to get up to Andong the next time I’m home for a couple of days, it’ll be hot so the fishing may not be so good.
That little boat is great for getting into tough places, but when I catch a fish it tows me around the river and into the trees
and if it’s windy, it’s not too good.
Congrats on your reprieve Steve!
Where did you get the rod rack thats on the inflatable? And is that orange rod a Carrot Stick?
John,
I got that rod rack at the same time and place as I got my boat and it’s made to fit straight onto the rubber blocks on the boat, but it is quite expensive at $58.00, here’s a link;
http://www.codam.co.kr/
Once you open the link, scroll down until you see “Boating Accesseries” (writen in Korean), click, and it’s on page 4. (Sorry it’s not a better link).
Oh and yes….it is a carrot stick, I bought it for my jigs and froggin’
Steve, do you like the carrot stick? I’ve thought about getting one myself. If I remember correctly they’re about $150, aren’t they?
Yep, it was $150.
I just got it a few weeks ago and have only used it once (in the photos above), but I used it ALL day long. I was flippin and pitchin heavy 5/8oz jigs all morning and then casting frogs and pulling bass and snakeheads out of thick weeds all afternoon.
It is the first 7′ 0″ rod I have ever owned and used so it felt very strange. Despite it’s very light weight, at the end of the day my arm was hurting, but I need to use it some more before I can give any real views on it.
What is it, medium / heavy? I have a 7’1″ G-Loomis Senko rod and it is okay I guess. Honestly though, the best rod I have is a cheap Korean one that I’ve had for about four years now. I love that thing. And I know what you mean about hurting. I was worn out yesterday from chucking that chatterbait all day long on Friday.
It’s the 7’0″ Extra Heavy with a fast tip model. I used to use a 6’6″ medium heavy that I bought in Korea, but it’s tip action was too soft for jigs and for pulling big bass out of the thick weeds. I’m also going to use the carrot stick for carolina rigs at a deep lake I like to fish (where the Korean record bass was caught
).
Rob, what line do you use with the chatterbaits ?? I like to use braid for mine, but at the end of the day my arm is shaking from the vibrations that the vibrashocks give off
I use flourocarbon for everything but have been thinking aboout trying out some braided line. Any recommendations?
My personal favorite is Power Pro, followed closely by P-Line.
I have both of these brands in various strengths from 11 ~ 65lb for most single hook techniques.
I use flourocarbon for everything else. I’ve never been a big fan of mono after losing several nice fish with it.
Thanks Steve, I’ll check into those. A friend of mine uses the P-Line and he really likes it.
I’ve heard some good things about the Power Pro braid, and the Sufix braid as well (John uses the Sufix and likes it a lot)…what I like to do is read the user reviews to get an idea of what other people have experienced. Right now I’m torn between the two but will probably order myself some of the Power Pro…just based on the user reviews and posts on various fishing forums.
