Early Morning Bass, Part 17

As I expected, the river is still really nasty from the rains we had the other day but hey, it’s Friday and what would Friday be without "Early Morning Bass?"  Check out how muddy the river is:

My goal, despite the water condition, was to at least get a bite, or something that vaguely resembled a bite and much to my surprise, I had two bites out there this morning…I caught one (dink) and lost one which I’m sure was also a dink.

Unfortunately, more rain is forecast for tomorrow and Sunday so the river won’t be improving any time soon – but don’t let that stop you!

Dude, that’s freaking nasty! It is pretty amazing how the fish are able to see, or hear, or feel, a lure in that crap, isn’t it?

Honestly, I was shocked to get the two bites that I had. I was using a black Senko and as soon as it hit the water, it disappeared…I’d say maybe 1/2 an inch visibility. I was using that stinky spray scent again and I think that had something to do with the bites.

I bet you had the river to your self this morning, I never see many people fishing when the weather is bad.

Looks like a good dink to me Nomad, and one that I won’t mind catching right now

    Steve,

There were two carp fishermen out on the point I like to start at, and as I was leaving that spot, another bass fisherman showed up…when I got to he place where I caught this fish, there was already another guy out there, bass fishing….it’s really getting crowded out there :(

  5. Steve says:

Bass fishing sure is getting more and more popular these days.

I think one of the big reasons that more people are showing up there is that all the Resevoirs/Lakes have been drained so much. Every lake I have been to has been down pretty low. Of course it doesn’t help when someone posts on Anglerstown that the river is hot and someone is making a killing  does it?

I believe that the proliferation of bass fishermen on the river (and on the lakes) is inevitable, regardless of what I, or anyone posts – or not – too many people, limited natural resources. I have no problem with other people fishing, because there are a lot of bass in that river and to be honest, from what I’ve seen, the majority of them don’t catch a lot of fish anyway and don’t stay around in any one spot too long. What does bother me, however, are incidents like the two I experienced in the last week; First, I was standing there, fishing, when this guy came up and stood there, watching me for a few minutes, so he knew exactly where I was casting (which was over to my right, past some rocks). He got his gear, went a few yards over on my right, and proceeded to cast right over my line with a spinnerbait, which of course tangled our lines. We untangled, and I went back to casting in the same spot. On his very next cast, he crossed me again and we got tangled up but this time he started complaining like it was my fault. Then, last Thursday, I started out at the point I always start out at, and I’d only been fishing maybe 5 minutes when a carp fisherman showed up with all his gear (platform, chair, rods). When he saw me standing there, he started muttering to himself and it was obvious that I was in “his” spot. This was Thursday, the day after the big rain and the entire river was empty of other fishermen so he could have gone anywhere else…but instead, he climbed down and literally started setting up his platform right on top of my tackle bag and second rod which were laying beside me…I just picked all my stuff up and went to another spot.
Granted, these incidents are rare; most of the local fishermen come, fish, and don’t stay around too long if they don’t catch a bass within the first 15 minutes but on both of those occasions, my entire morning was ruined…
Fishing over here as we knew it a few years ago is history…bass fishing has become too popular, and with the building of the levees and the construction that’s been going on, the river is too accessible now…just look at the number of boats out there, some of them nice bass boats…not to mention water skiers, jet skis etc…I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing, which is fishing when and where I can, and enjoy it, while the fishing is good.

    LOL Hacker!

Nomad, you should have punched those guys in the throat!

    Nomad,

I have had the same crap happen to me numerous times. It’s like they were raised in a barn and have no manners or ettiquete. One I will never forget is when I was fishing in Kunsan and was on a hot spot. The bass were chasing baitfish right in front of me and I was killing them. This Korean who was way on the other side sees me and while I am removing a hook from a fish I just caught, walks not beside me, or on top of a hill behind me, but right in front of me as if I was never there. My Korean brother in law was with me and saw this and said something to him but the Korean just ignored him. To make matters worst, the guy catches a fish that easily went over 5 pounds right in front of me and turns around to show it to us like he was bragging. It took all I had to restrain me from grabbing him, hurting him and then tossing his butt into the lake. Just like Nomad said though, after about ten minutes of him not catching anything afterwards, he left the area to another spot. All I can say is I love a lot of things about Korea, but hate just as many. I hope I don’t have to deal with this when I get to Colorado in two months.

  10. Rob says:

LOL Tex Mex! Oh man, going to Colorado? How I envy you!!!

    “Rocky Mountain High, Colorado…”

Reference Koreans, I’ve totally stopped trying to figure them out and have just decided to deal with it for as long as I’m here, the best I can anyway. I have a total of nine years in country, can speak the language fairly decently, took college classes on Korean culture and folklore, but this place still just baffles the hell out of me sometimes.

  11. Nomad says:

    TexMex,

Every time I think that I’ve gotten immune to it (after 14 years total, you’d think I would be), something or someone comes along and does something that proves me wrong. I could half-way understand it if access to the spots was limited and it was real crowded out there but hey, at 6 in the morning on a weekday, when there’s no one else around?

Fortunately, these kinds of incidents don’t happen all that often – but when they do, they gives me more reasons to buy a boat
