I’m back !!!!

I’m back home and I’m back fishing again. I fished yesterday morning from 4:30am and caught several small bass on as many casts with a buzzbait…..now that was fun fishing    even though they had no size to them.

Then I move to the other side of the lake and started fishing frogs over the thick weeds and pulled heaved these 2 bass out.

The last one (last 2 photos) was 49cm (AGAIN). I have caught four 49cm bass in the last 4 visits to this lake and STILL can’t find a 50cm     I’m sure the bass shrink in size when they see me coming

LOL Steve, and way to go! Maybe you need a new tape measure. :) Holy cow that’s close! All you had to do was step on it, smash it out a little, and you would have been there. lol

Welcome home, Steve! That’s what I’m talking about…nice catch all around and once again, oh-so-close to that 50cm bass ;) Don’t worry, at the rate you’re going, you’ll have one this year. That’s my prediction and I’m sticking to it.
BTW, the wind out at the river this morning must have dissipated that algae some because it wasn’t too bad out there. Yet. LOL

    Thanks guys !!!

Rob, I think that my measuring tape needs calibrating
I hope to get out again tomorrow or Friday early morning…..depends on the weather forecast.

No problem Steve. Glad your safe at home and back in the groove of things.

By chance, did you happen to weigh the 49 centimeter one? Of course it all depends, and every fish is different, but from my experience I would say that a 50 centimeter bass is somewhere in the 3.75 to 4.25 pound range, in general…

Rob, I didn’t weigh her as I left my scales in my bag in the car, but I caught a 47cm bass just before going to Nigeria and she weighed 2lb 10oz so I’m guessing this one was about 3lb or just over.

Thanks Steve… Regardless, she’s a healthy looking bass. I was just curious if my “internal scale” was right or not. lol

    Steve,

I’ve never caught anything on a buzzbait before (I think I’ve only tried one maybe once or twice)…you have to fish them pretty fast, across the tops of the weeds and vegetation, right?

  8. Steve says:

I was fishing mine in open water along the edges of the weeds so that it wouldn’t get caught up, but you could fish them through grass and thin weeds. You have to fish them fast enough so that it is on the surface but slow enough to give the bass chance to hit it. I use a 7.1:1 ratio reel for fishing buzzbaits so that I don’t have to reel so fast.

It took me a while to catch a bass on a buzzbait also, but you should give them a try when it’s dark or at first and last light….it’s great fun

Rob, I’d say your “internal scale” is pretyy damn close

Hmmm…next time I’m out there, and it’s real calm, I’ll give one a try.

  10. Steve says:

It’s exciting stuff Nomad…..I’ll be trying again tomorrow or Friday

I bet it is. I’ve never fished with top water lures much. A couple of years ago while Nomad and I were out at Idong I briefly tried using a popper, and a fish nailed it, but I missed the hook set.

My biggest bass ever came on a 4″ popper last year. I mainly use poppers for night fishing.
