I fished at a one acre pond yesterday morning and had a bit of fun. I know there’s no monsters in this pond so I just went to catch a few bass. Well, I managed to catch 18 bass from 4:30am ~ 11:30am. All bass caught before daylight were caught on buzzbaits (including a “good-for-this-pond” bass) and as soon as it was light all they mainly wanted was wacky rigged 5″ watermelon/red flake senkos. Good fun!! here’s a few of the photos….
Oh yea, there was also a small snake and a turtle swimming around, but I couldn’t get a photo of the turtle

Way to go Steve! I’ll take 18 dinks and skinny bass any day of the week! I wonder what’s up with them being so skinny though. Overpopulation maybe?
Dude, we have those same type snakes in my front yard and my wife is terrified! We’ve lived here for two years and haven’t seen any until now. I think all of the baby frogs running around out front have a little something to do with it too. I told my wife that they’re just looking for a quick meal, but she’s still scared shitless. Do you know if they’re poisonous? They really don’t bother me much, but I wouldn’t want to step on one while I’m outside barefoot playing with the dogs, that’s for sure.
Way to go, Steve! Some nice fish in that group…and that snake looks very familiar and yes, if that’s the same type then they are poisonous.
Thanks guys!!
Rob, that little pond has literally 1000′s of dink bass and as far as I know there is no prey fish for them to eat. I have never seen any bleugill and other fish in there. When I was there, the bass were feeding on the 100′s of big dragon flies and even some butterflies that got too close to the water. I assume that the the bass are eating there own
I really need to do some harvesting at this pond to make the bass healthier and bigger, but they are just too many for me to do alone…..anyone want some bass for dinner
Nomad, that was a great story you did on that snake before, and yes I think it was the same kind of snake, but this one was just a baby. I heard somewhere (but don’t quote me on this
) that it’s venom fangs where further back in it’s mouth compared to other snakes, so IF one ever tried to bite a person, it would be near impossible to do any harm, besides, everytime I see these snakes they always disappear quick.
Thanks for the info. guys. My wife has seen two of them (could have been the same one), and she said that it looked exactly like the one in your pic. She also said that it was pretty bold, and didn’t run away very fast. In fact, she had to use a broom stick on the one she saw yesterday to get him out of the yard. I told her to stay away from them and obviously not to bother them. Live and let live.
Anybody check the weather yet for early next week. Looks like a little rainstorm may be headin in.
And right you are, Dave!

Going with the JTWC’s forecast, it’ll be pretty weak by the time it gets close though.
No shit? Has it been that long already Steve? Wow!

I’ve been home 3 weeks today. I’ve got 2 more trips to do but with a possible 3rd
The good news is, I was fishing today and caught 50 bass
