Tex Mex and his son Joshua go ocean fishing!!

I received an email from Tex Mex this morning.  He and his son recently went ocean fishing off the coast of California, and from the pictures it looks like they had an excellent time.  They caught several nice sized barracuda, over 30 large rock fish and one rare ling cod.  Joshua, who I think was ocean fishing for the first time, caught himself two nice sized barracudas and some nice rock fish.  Way to go guys!

    Tex Mex,

Too bad all of us never got together to fish…let us know how you’re doing send us those fishing reports!

Yea, sorry I never made it up North before you left Korea Tex Mex, but it sure looks like you are having a good time back home.

    Great photos !!!!

I also wish we could have got together for some fishing before I left but as usual the wife and family take up most of the time when you are close to leaving. As much as I dogged out some of the things in Korea, I do miss it badly and would get back in a heartbeat. I am now in Ft Carson, Colorado, and have to get adapted to the trout fishing. They do have several lakes with largemouth and smallmouth bass but I don’t believe the fish are that big. One good thing is we do have a Bass Pro Shop in Denver, which I have already visited twice. Once I’m settled in, I will find out the scoop on the fishing out here and send you all stateside reports. I can’t believe I may actually have to take up fly fishing. I will definitely get back to Korea for vacation and will hopefully at that time go out fishing with you guys. Keep on slaying them.

    Way to go Tex!!
I am still planning my Oct amberjack trip you recommended last year.
The guide you recommended in Pusan said they are starting their trip through now.
Their website: http://www.jfishing.co.kr/ shows them catching a few now but not quite the numbers that you described for the past few Octobers.
Can’t wait. Getting tackle ready now. The octopus hooks arrived in the mail just today.

Looking forward to seeing more of your fishing reports Tex Mex…..and fly fishing is great once you get the hang of it.

My son Joshua and I went out to a beautiful postercard mountain lake this Satrurday and slayed the trout. We were allowed four trout a piece and had our eight in less than 1 1/2 hours. I probably could have caught them faster had I used powerbait like my son as they were just tearing it up. I instead wanted to be a good sportsman and used panther spinner baits to catch my limit. Ofcourse when I went to take pictures, my camera was dead; go figure. We’ll be back out again and we’ll have a charged camera this time.

    Hunterdave,

You will have a blast catching them amberjacks. They are probably starting to come into the Korean waters now but in October and November they will be tearing it up. Sounds like you got all the right gear. The octopus hooks will be perfect. Good luck and post a report on how you do.

    Tex,
Thanks for the encouragement. I think it will be a blast. Just got to pray for good weather.
We have a nice group going from work.
My sister lived in Denver for about 15 years. They always used bright colored mini marshmallows. They float like powerbait and are a WHOLE lot cheaper. Here at the trout lakes in Korea I use the powerbait because we need the added scent release because the water is not very clear. There in Colorado, some of the lakes seem as clear as Ozarka bottled water! The only problem with that is you need to use such light line.
take care and keep us posted here in the ROK.

Thanks for the report Tex Mex. At least you’re not losing your cameras. I’m on my third one in as many years! Ack!

Hunter, sounds like a lot of fun. Hope you guys tear ‘em up!

    thanks Rob,
I’m currently going through some serious cabin fever right now. Early summer my fishing partner (daughter) broke her left arm crashing on her Heelies sneakers and I just broke my left foot at the beginning of the month (damn coffee table). So I’m really starting to get the fishing DT’s about now.
I hope to get a serious fix next month with some deep sea action. I will still have to wear a special shoe, but who cares.
    Dave

Ack! Sorry to hear that Hunter. I hope you and your daughter both recover soon!! I broke my right arm (compound fracture) roller skating when I was about your daughter’s age. No fun at all!
