Me, my wife and our daughter went to Jinju on Saturday to attend the festival that was going on on the river (Nam Gang). We met up with another family that are originally from Jinju but now live in Ulsan. Here some shots of the River on Saturday night.
After the river festival, we all headed back to near our friends Mother’s home and proceeded to drink excessive amounts of alcohol and we all ended up sleeping at his Mother’s home and drinking a little more
(OK, I’ll get to the point!!!!)
It turns out that our friends Mother lives right beside my favorite lake, so whilst my wife recovered from her hangover, I went to the lake and had a few casts. Well, the fishing was slow to say the least, I only had one bite, and here is the result…..
A nice fat, healthy 54cm lunker at last. Unfortunately in my excitement, I completely forgot to weigh her but have calculated from one the online bass weight convertors that she was around 5lb 10oz.

Steve,
Nice fish!!! Way to go. I see they are still hitting the cranks there.
WTG, Steve! You’re now an official member of the 50cm bass club
Come on Steve! That’s it! One measely old fish!
You know I’m kidding. Nice fish, and if you can only catch one, that’s the one you want to catch. Congratulations!
Thanks fella’s.
Mike, most of the fish I’ve caught in the 2 trips out were caught on crankbaits.
I’ve got a few photos from Monday and I’ll post them soon.
Nice Fish!!!

I still don’t understand the fascination over here about length when it comes to bass. Back in the states, it’s all about weight once a fish makes the minimum length.
I was beginning to wonder if anyone on this forum was ever going to fish again.
I am finally getting healed up and we are heading down south for the big trip this weekend.
I am getting tired of catching fish on the Nintendo Wii.
We are doing the offshore amberjack trip that TexMex informed us on last year. We have 7 people going. Should be a blast. Hopefully I will have a mega-report early next week.
Dave
I don’t know why nobody has posted lately. I know Nomad has been out and caught a few. I went to Andong and caught a real nice Sogari and a nice bass, and I think John “The Original” placed 10th in a tournament with Alan down at Andong this past weekend. I guess people just haven’t felt much like posting, for whatever reason…
Good luck on your trip Dave, and take your camera!!!
And by the way, the trout lake in Wongok (Sanji Land I believe) is open for trout fishing, catch and release only.
Nomad,
Good catch. What is up with the nice Sogari. Did you also catch this?
Rob: I’l be sending you two posts here soon. One for another ocean trip to California and the other where mine and my friends kids went out and smoked the rainbow trout.
Hunter Dave: I’m anxious to hear what your results are. Hope you have at least one guy in your group that gets hammered the night before and is hung over during the trip. This will be the guy who will get sick on the boat and will provide additional chum to attract the fish.
You all take care.
Dave,
I’m not sure either, but most Koreans go by length, not weight…maybe because aside from bass and carp, there really aren’t a lot of big fish over here? No idea…Good luck on your deep-sea fishing trip, should be a blast!
Rob,
I’ve been out a few times in the last couple of weeks but I think we’re in fall turnover up this way and the spots I usually fish are completely dead except for the occasional dink, hence my lack of posts. Plus, it’s pretty cold out there early in the morning so EMB™ (Early Morning Bass) fishing is over for the year.
Tex Mex,
Rob caught that Sogari, not me. Looking forward to your state-side reports
Nice Sogari Rob.
Has anyone ever heard of or fished at NaJu Ho?? It is located at the South West part of Korea. I will be fishing there on Sunday in my boat with my bass club
Rob,
Just wondering if you got my email with a post. Didn’t hear anything so thought maybe I had sent it to wrong email address.
All: So how’s the weather in Korea now? Usually this is when the fishing would get good again up until about late Nov-Dec.
Tex, down where I am near Busan the weather is still really warm were I can wear shorts and t-shirt, but it gets a bit cooler on a night time, but still quite warm…..quite strange.
As for the fishing, hopefully I can let you know tomorrow
Looking forward to seeing your post Tex.
Tex, it’s starting to get cool and we’ve had several days of totally stagnant and polluted air. In fact, they’re saying that it’s unhealthy to go outside. Think you could pump some of that clean fresh mountain air our way?
Rob,
Come on down my way…..it’s clean down here and the fish are biting
lol Steve.
I went out last Friday with a couple of Korean Pros, and we did pretty well. They taught me a lot, that’s for sure. But given my limited knowledge to begin with, that’s not really saying much. lol Seriously, I was very impressed with their general bass fishing knowledge, and even more impressed with their in-depth knowledge of the river.
Pollution has been really bad up here for the past several days, and according to the media it’s actual pollution due to a stagnant air mass and not Chinese yellow dust. There’s no telling what we’re breathing in.
