Veteran’s Day Catfish and Bass

Alan and I have always wondered if there were catfish in the Pyongtaek River, and now we know.  When I went out early Tuesday morning this is the last thing I expected to catch, especially on a shaky-head worm.  Anyone ever seen, or caught one of these things?  I think the Koreans call them Mae-gi.

In addition to the catfish, I caught several small bass…

…and then finished up the day catching this little pig on a 4″ chigger craw in the early afternoon.  About thirty minutes before, something nailed my Senko and nearly pulled the rod out of my hands, so I had a feeling that there was a decent fish in the area.  I stuck with it and finally got her to bite, but only after changing baits and then very slowly working it through the tall weeds.

Rob, I caught one of those catfish on a shakey head with a baby brush hog earlier this year and it was about 24 inches long.

Good going on the bass catches also!!

Thanks Steve. I didn’t weigh or measure any of the fish, but I am wearing size 12 boots in the pic.

BTW Rob, I guess people do eat those catfish and allegedly, they’re not bad, depending who you talk to. A couple of my friends told me that the meat is really slimy, not at all like the catfish we’re used to back home.

I caught two of those in the Nakdong river in Pusan before. Didn’t eat them and am glad I didn’t after hearing Nomad say they have “Slimey meat” Yuk!!!. Slimey catfish and beer does not go good togther but maybe just maybe some soju would.

    Tex Mex,

Drink enough soju and almost* anything tastes good

    * I say “almost” because no matter how much I had, I couldn’t get myself to try those bundaeggi
