For the last few days, I’ve been going out at lunchtime to wet a line. The first two days, I had one bite each time, but missed both fish (It’s rust – that’s my story and I’m sticking to it
). Yesterday, I went out as well but threw a spinnerbait almost the whole time with not a single bite to show for it. I went back out again at lunchtime today, and finally caught my first bass of 2009, on (you guessed it) a 4-inch, black Senko (let’s take a moment to praise Gary Yamamoto).

The water is still pretty cold…when I touched that fish, it felt like it had just come out of a freezer and when it took the worm, the bite was so soft and lethargic, I barely felt it and originally thought I had brushed the Senko against a rock or something on the bottom. Once I set the hook though, the fish was quite energetic for the dink that he was

I took my little inflatable boat out to a lake on Tuesday as I was supposed to be going back to work on Friday morning. This work trip has now been postponed until next week, so I should be able to get one more fishing trip in before then.
The lake is the one that Tex Mex knows that is between Taegu and Busan.
When I got on the water at 9:00am the water temps were only 42 degrees, but by mid-day it was up around 50 degrees and the fish started to bite. During the whole day I only got 5 bites. I hooked into 3 of them, but lost one of them right at the boat.
The bites I had were only on a drop shot rig and the Neko rig which I talked about in another post with Rob.
Enough of my blabbering, here’s some fish pics……….

Here’s the depth and temperature on my HB Smartcast.

This was my first post using Windows Live Writer, it was sooooo much easier. Thanks for all your help with that Nomad

The below is from Tex Mex:
Here are some photos of some recent fishing we did on the Arkansas river in Pueblo, Co and Cannon City, Co, that you can post to Nomad’s fishing post. I noticed Steve is starting to catch them up in the southern part of Korea. That is good as it should come your way soon also. Below is a write up.
The weather down here in Colorado has been strange from what I was expecting. We have had snow and blizzards and two days later the temperatures are in the 60-70s, this all occuring in Dec thru current. That meant fishing weather and we have been catching them on the Arkansas river. Some of the brown trout we caught were small but man are they a beautiful fish. They are a little harder to catch than the rainbows as they do appear to be a bit smarter and pickier. Just yesterday we hit the river again and I pulled out the nice rainbow which went about three pounds. It put up a good fight and almost got away by getting in the fast water but thanks to my buddy for running without waders into the cold water to net him. I owe him a beer. The funny thing about this bigger trout was that it had a hook in its mouth that appeared to be fresh, which meant someone had recently hooked it but it got away. I took that bad boy home to put on the grill this weekend. I still do miss the heck out of Korea but at least this fishing helps me take my mind off it.

I went back to the same lake on Saturday from where I caught my dink last week and had a much better day. I also remember why I don’t like to fish on a weekend……there was at least 30 other bass fisherman (and fishergirls
).
I tried almost everything in my tackle bag without a single bite, then I tried a drop shot rig with a 4″ cut tail worm covered with mega strike and started getting bites almost immediately. In 4 hours bank fishing I landed 11 bass and missed at least another 11 bites due to my own fault of not concentrating fully. I was also using my new drop shot rod and reel with 6lb fluro line.
Here a few pics…..the 3 rd photo was probably the biggest of the day at around 13 inches.

Like Steve, I was happy to catch my first bass of 2009 even if it was a dink. I was fishing some extreme cover (see pic) with a tube bait and the bass wacked it pretty hard.
The bass was right under this plastic chair, I wanted to exploit the pattern but couldn’t find any more chairs!
I plan on hitting Singal and Andong next month to see if I can catch something bigger.

I mean first dink of 2009….. lol
On Tuesday me and my buddy went driving around a few waters to see what the water levels were like ready for getting my boat in the water again. Unfortunately all the water levels are still very low, but we did manage to wet a line or 2 and I caught my first 2009 bass on a drop shot. My buddy caught one about the same size at the same time on a single tail grub with a split shot.
