First bass of 2009

I mean first dink of 2009….. lol
On Tuesday me and my buddy went driving around a few waters to see what the water levels were like ready for getting my boat in the water again. Unfortunately all the water levels are still very low, but we did manage to wet a line or 2 and I caught my first 2009 bass on a drop shot. My buddy caught one about the same size at the same time on a single tail grub with a split shot.

Nice going Steve! :) Hopefully the ice up this way will melt so that we’ll be able to get out there soon too.

I will be out there again tomorrow…. I’ll catch a few for you guys

    WTG, Steve!

We had a nasty front come through yesterday…first it was around 60 degrees in the morning then we had monsoon-like rains and heavy winds all day. Really weird for this time of year but hopefully it melted the remaining ice.

Damn, beat me by a day! I caught my first today but mine was bigger(by about an inch).
It was cold and windy so I wasn’t expecting to catch anything. It’s amazing how even catching a dink can warm you right up. I’ll be posting some pics of my monster once I remember how to do it, it’s been so long…..

    Nice going John.

By the way, why didn’t you ever make a post on the real nice fish you caught down at Andong in the fall? Alan sent me a few pics of it and that thing had to weigh around five pounds. Darn nice fish, or Alan is extremely good at “making fish look bigger than they really are” photography. :)

Good news is all of the ice appears to have melted up this way, but it’s supposed to turn cold again.

Alright John, looking forward to seeing your bass (that is bigger than mine)

I went again yesterday and had a much better day. I’ll be posting some pics soon.

Uh oh, you guys aren’t going to get into one of those “my bass is bigger than yours” kind of conversations, are you?

Good deal, John, glad you had a chance to get out there this weekend – if you want, we can have a remedial “posting” class at work  . Steve, I’m looking forward to your post of the latest fishing trip….good to see that some of you are getting out and catching fish already. I’m going to spend some time Monday getting all my stuff organized and ready and hopefully in a few weeks it’ll warm up enough for me to get back out there as well.

    Rob,
I was trying to be funny; as you know, “size doesn’t matter” ; ) I spent the last hour trying to put together a fishing calendar of times and places when I caught good bass, it’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. Culling thru notes, pictures, and my poor memory, I’ve come up with a seasonal calendar that I hope to use this year. It is amazing to see that I was on the river in my boat on the 7th of January last year and caught five bass.
About the last Andong tournament, it was a good fish but I didn’t take any pics that trip. A 5 pounder is just a decent fish in Andong but in the river it would’ve been a trophy. You need to take your boat down there this year, it’s phenomenal fishing.

I knew you were joking John. ;)

And I agree that the odds of catching a five pounder are much greater at Andong than the river, but I also know plenty of people who have fished down there for years and haven’t caught a 5 pound or better bass out of it yet, to include ME. Unfortunately, my personal best down there is only 4 pounds 15 ounces  , but I did catch a couple of others that same day that were right around the same size, maybe even a little biggier, but I didn’t weigh or measure them.

Oh man, I absolutely love fishing that clear deep water though, and will hopefully be able to make a few trips down there this year. We should all get together for a camping / fishing / drinking / bbq’ing trip.

I’ll be there too if work allows
