Yesterday was definitely my last chance for some fishing before I head to Angola at the end of this week
I got to the lake at lunchtime and the wind was blowing hard, it was cloudy and kinda cold. I managed to catch 10 bass in what I thought was no-so-good fishing conditions. The best technique was to cast spinnerbaits into the wind and drag them along the bottom at a fairly slow speed. Most of the bass were tight to the bank where the wind was blowing onto.
Here’s some pics of the biggest one!!
And another couple decent ones……
Nice bass, Steve! LOL, if I try that slow-spinnerbait-retrieve method in the river, I’ll run out of spinnerbaits in less than an hour
LOL Nomad. That river must be very snaggy as spinnerbaits are extremely snag/weedless.
I lost one spinnerbait yesterday, but it broke off at the knot during a cast, on 15lb mono no less
Way to go out Steve! Keep safe, and hurry back for some April fishing!!!
Steve, you’d have to see it/experience it to believe it. Fishing from a boat isn’t quite as bad because (most times) you’re out in deeper water and if you get snagged, you can get to the general area and try to work it loose but from shore it’s bad. Aside from the rocks on the bottom, there are sunken nets, ropes, boats and who knows what else out there to get hung up on.
I can vouch for what Nomad is saying Steve. It’s pretty bad. And Nomad, don’t forget concertina wire.
What really gets my goat are the sunken nets though. Once you hook into one of those you’re screwed. I can deal with getting hung up in the rocks and tree limbs because that’s just fishing, but the “other stuff” that’s out there sure is frustrating to deal with at times.
I hear you on the sunken nets…..my prop has “found” a few of them at full speed
