I took a trip to Singal to try to recreate a trip from a few years ago when I caught seven fish that weighed over 30 pounds. That was by far the best day I’ve ever had fishing so I was eager to hit the lake again. I was also itching to try out my new toy side imaging sonar from Humminbird. You’ve probably seen pictures in Bassmaster and other fishing magazines of the device, let’s just say the pictures are not exaggerated.
This is a zoom of a screen capture that shows bait and fish suspended over a depression.
This shows a school of fish on a breakline in shallow water.
Two fish in deeper water.
I’m amazed at the images and the technology packed into this unit. I need to gain a lot more experience reading and interpreting before I can start catching. I can’t wait to take it out on the Anseong river.
I remember the post from when you cleaned up at Singal John. Nice! Sorry you weren’t able to replicate it, but there’s always next time.
I talked to several people who fished yesterday, both down at Andong and up here, and the fish had lockjaw for some reason. I caught one small one out at the river, but it took a heck of a lot of walking and four hours to do it.
Nice depth finder!! I had side-imaging sonar on my small one for the porta boat, but it was nothing like that.
When you take it out to the river, remember to look for all the spinnerbaits I’ve lost near the boat ramp area
John, that is sweet. What model did you get and where did you get it from??
Does it have the GPS option also?? how does that work on Korean waters??
(sorry for all the questions John)
I will be getting one in a couple of weeks as soon as I get back to Korea….but the $1100 price tag is a lot of money, but it will be worth it. The model I’m looking at getting is the 798csi (I think that’s right).
Sorry the fish weren’t cooperating that day John, they’ll still be there next time
Nomad…….LMAO
Steve,
I lucked out and saw the 797 with the GPS and Navionics maps for $670 from Cabelas. It was last years model but I am more than happy with it already. The GPS works great for waypoints and charting but the coolest thing about it is the ability to take snapshots onto an SD card. That way you can set a waypoint with a picture of the structure that’s located there. That’s a godsend for us peanut brains.
Singal will be hot in a few weeks I’m sure and I hope to be out there then. I love the lake but it is starting to get crowded. The number of bank bass fishermen I saw had to be over a hundred and there were quite a few boats out also but I guess its starting to be like that everywhere. How’s it down your way?
100 bank fishermen?????
Ack!
WOW John, that is a good deal on the 797. I was looking at that model a few months ago, but now the new model (798) is out.
)
I may pick your brain on this a little later when I get one fitted on my boat (BTW, I am a bit of a peanut brain
Things are getting very similar down my way also. I have been lucky lately with my job that I am able to fish during the week and STILL find growing numbers of bass anglers on the banks and a few boats. If I fish on a weekend I will struggle for bank space.
I’ve heard lots of good thing about Singal having good sized bass in it. One day I’ll fish there…..just don’t know when since it’s a long way away from me.
