Fishing with Rob, again

This morning, Rob and I went out on the river in his boat and although we had planned to make a day of it, it got so windy by noon that it was almost impossible to fish.  And on top of that, the bass were not biting very well today for some reason.

But, we made the most of the time we had out there and managed to have some fun and catch fish.

I caught this 3 pound, 5 ounce bass on a crankbait, in shallow water and no one was more surprised than I was, especially considering that the fish grabbed the lure right after I pulled it past some shallow reeds and then hung on without any real fight, which had me thinking I was reeling in some vegetation.  The fish didn’t really put up any kind of fight till it got close to the boat.  For the most part, that was the story for the day; light, tentative bites and also a few missed fish because they would hit the lure once and then drop it or not come back for a second hit.

I believe Rob caught all his fish today on wacky-rigged Senkos and aside from the one I caught on the crankbait, my other ones were also caught on wacky-rigged Senkos.  We also tried weightless Senkos, spinnerbaits, Basstrix paddletail minnows and various crankbaits – with no luck.  Even though the bass were not as cooperative today as we hoped they would be for this time of year and we had to stop early because the wind started blowing hard around noon, it’s always great to go out in a boat. Well, this ends my week of vacation and fishing and next week it’s back to work.

Nice going guys, sorry to hear about the wind. At leaset you got on the water and caught a few before having to join the rat race again next week

Nomad, that 3 pounder is a nice looking bass

    Thanks Steve.

Fishing in that kind of wind is just not much fun at all. Thankfully it didn’t really start getting bad until well after 1 PM or so, and by that time we had already been fishing for 7 hours. LOL

Oh, and the pic of Nomad’s nice fish above in no way does it justice. That was a really nice 46 centimeter bass, with very pretty color too. The pic doesn’t really reflect either quality very well.

Also, compared to last year the boat ran great! And not that it was that bad last year, but it was hard to start and didn’t idle very well. Thanks to a simple service by Estec Marine, those problems are long gone.

I will be fishing from my inflatable boat on Sunday with my bass club so I hope there’s no wind or I’ll be moving faster than my electric motor

That’s great news on your boat Rob, you’ll have to get over to Andong now

Good luck in the tournament Steve!

To give you an idea of how bad the wind was up here yesterday, I had to put my 71 pound thrust trolling motor on the number three setting to move us against it, and even then we were barely moving.

Ditto on the good luck, Steve. Take lots of pics and do give us a report :)
