I went back out to the river this morning before work, to the same spot where a bass broke my line not once but two times last week. And yes, I did replace the 6-pound test line with some new 10-pound test over the weekend and it’s a good thing I did, or I’d be writing yet another sob story.
Once again, I had no bites till close to 6:15 or so and that’s when I caught the above fish, which I thought was a pretty good start for the week. But then, things got a lot better:
Both of the above pics are of the same fish…I cast my 4-inch Senko (black with blue flakes) over to the right, close to the rocks and as soon as the Senko started sinking, that bass grabbed it and took off. Once I set the hook, I knew I had a decent bass on but the trick was getting the fish to shore without another line break. Once I got the bass close to shore I saw that the hook was in the very corner of its lip, just hanging by a thread….one more hard run or a shake of the head and I’d be writing another “the one that got away” story but luckily the gods were smiling on me today because as you can see, I finally caught that elusive 50cm bass. It doesn’t matter what happens the rest of the week, or hell, the rest of the year, because now I’m all set
LOL, I was so excited that I forgot to weigh it!
Congratulations Nomad! Nice Fish!
Thank you, sir!
WTG Nomad, it’s a great feeling isn’t it
I also forgot to weigh my first bass over 50cm due to the excitement.
Steve,
Thanks, and yes it is
I like to get them back in the water as fast as possible so the weighing is not really a big thing but I thought it was funny that I was so excited that I completely forgot about doing so until well after I had put her back in. LOL
Why were you so worried about getting her back in the water so quickly? She probably ended up swimming into a net anyway.
Just kidding man, and congratulations again!!!
I told you it was good to loose the occasional big one. If you caught a lunker every time then you would not have been as excited as you where catching this one. You are the man. I never caught anything of that size out of the river, only in Andong. About how much do you think it weighed?
Rob,
Oh that’s just so wrong!!! Maybe I’m weird but I’ve always had this thing about getting the bass, especially the big ones, back in as fast as possible so they don’t end up dying.
Tex Mex,
Yes, you’re right…I’ve been going after a 50cm bass for several years now and part of what kept me going out again and again was the challenge. As for how much it weighed, I’ll defer that one to Rob, our resident human scale
If I had to guess though, I’d say somewhere between 3 1/2 and 4 pounds.
Good going Nomad! Nice looking fish.
Dude, you know I was kidding. I’m the same way. It really bothers me when I kill a fish, especially if I’m not going to eat it.
LOL Since I didn’t actually get to hold it in my hand I can’t say for sure, but just guessing I’d say right around 4 pounds, give or take a couple of ounces in either direction. I used to be pretty good at guessing, sometimes right on the money, but if you remember correctly I was way off on that 3.5 pound fish you caught earlier in the year. What did I say it was, 2.5? Ack!
Mike,
Thanks, hope to see you out there soon!
Rob,
Yeah I know you were kidding LOL 4 pounds it is!
Nomad, the 50cm I caught 2 weeks ago was 4lb 6oz with a belly full of eggs. Did yours have eggs??
“She probably ended up swimming into a net anyway”
That was wrong…but funny
Steve,
No real big belly on her, and none of the bass I’ve been catching have red tails so I don’t think they are even spawning yet but they should be getting close…
You’re not seeing any bass with eggs because disgraced Korean stem cell cloner Hwang Woo Suk has developed a new chemical, which when added to a body of water, prevents the bass, and only the bass, from developing eggs and spawning. And I hear that the Pyongtaek City Governemt has placed the biggest order to date with Hwang, two metric tons of the stuff, which they dumped into the river last Fall – hence no eggs.
ROTFL
But you know, Rob…I could see it, man, I really could.
