Hump Day

I started out at my favorite spot this morning, and let me tell you, it was so foggy out there that I could barely see 2 feet in front of me.  The water is finally starting to clear up a little, which is good, but I *think* the bass are on the beds now because the bite has definitely slowed down in the last week or so – although I’m still not seeing any red tails.

Here are a couple of sunrise pics, taken from my fallback spot…the fog was starting to lift by then but it was still a bit hazy out.

I only caught three out there this morning (on black, 4-inch Senkos), the other was a real dink and not even worthy of having its pic taken.  Blah, and I lost yet another spinnerbait when a bass grabbed it and took the line into the rocks, where it promptly got cut.  LOL, good thing I ordered plenty back in the winter time :)

Nice going Nomad! And I really like that second zoomed-in sunrise pic. Nice!

LOL, me too…I do wish it wouldn’t have been so hazy out though. I need to stay a bit longer at the PBA area so I can get some decent sunrise pics agin. At the other spot, the sun rises behind me, out of sight. It *seems* like the bass have moved out of that area now, just like last year, so I’ll be spending more time at the PBA area again and should be getting some sunrise pics again.
How big, exactly, do carp get? I had one roll on the surface this morning, about 2 feet from me and that thing looked like it was almost 3 feet long! It was just getting light, and that carp scared the crap out of me

  3. Rob says:

They get pretty darn big. I once saw a guy catch one 70 something centimeters long at Idong.

By the way, the big bass that Ron caught down at Andong the weekend before last came in at 60 centimeters. Damn nice fish.

  4. Nomad says:

Yep, that thing probably was about 3 feet long. All I know is, it was still a little dark, the water was like glass and then that thing came up right next to me and splashed. I about had a heart attack

Yeah, 60cm is a nice fish indeed. That’s an “Andong” bass.

    Jaws!!! LOL

The royal pain in my ass commercial and carp fishermen probably have them trained to intimidate us bass lowlife’s. LOL

Spawn? Isn’t it late? Around here, (Daegu), they started spawning over a month ago.
The carp(Inga) get over 3 feet long. They usually run in pairs. Cast behind them…I have seen bass followiing them!

  7. Nomad says:

    Rob,

    I wouldn’t be surprised.

    Kingpin,

I could very well be wrong, but I don’t think the bass up here have finished spawning yet. I haven’t caught one single bass with a red tail, and the water didn’t really start warming up until about 2 weeks or so ago. It’s been a strange spring so far, indeed.

I’m really feeling home sick now. Only 6 work days to go and I’ll be on my way home to catch some bass again  Good going Nomad.

Kingpin, I fish even more South of you, about 2 South of Daegu and the bass have spawned out already there also, but I fished with Nomad several weeks ago and found the water temps up there were a heck of a lot colder than our more Southern waters, I was very surprised in the difference.

  9. Rob says:

They were still spawning down at Andong a couple of weeks ago. I saw several active beds, and caught numerous fish with red bloody tails. If I wasn’t on call this weekend I’d be back down there again, but unfortunately for me duty calls.

I don’t know what’s going on up here. Nomad has gotten out there a heck of a lot more than I have, but I haven’t caught anything resembling a spawning fish. No fat bellies, no red bloody tails… :???:

  11. Rob says:

Hang in there Steve. It won’t be long now…

  12. Nomad says:

새참 or should I call you hyon

I caught these fish at Daenkori, which is one of my favorite spots on that river. Last year, I caught 90% of my “early morning bass” right there but this year, that spot isn’t that good for some reason.

Haha, if you do get up early , come on out and fish with me, I’m usually there around 4 in the morning (on weekdays)

i just got to korea today, im an avid surf fisherman. i want to do some fishing very badly, but dont have a clue. tackle wise i have no idea whats here. all i have a lure someone i know made and one i made so just in case i get a fish in korea off of them.

  15. Nomad says:

    Eugene,

I can’t help you with the surf fishing but from watching the Korean fishing channel (FTV), I can tell you that there’s plenty of saltwater fishing do be done here. As for tackle, there are bait/tackle shops all over the place, on or near almost every body of water and you should be able to get whatever you need. Good luck!

Some of the guys on Anglerstown site do alot of inshore fishing mostly on the west coast.

I have went with them a few times and they fish with light freshwater outfits and clean them daily. Mostly are catching flounder and rockfish.

There are seasonal japanese seabass to be caught from the shore but I haven’t broke the code on that. Seems to be mostly down around Kunsan to Pusan and Jejudo.
