Ty Does Kunsan

I’m posting this for Ty, who had a couple of really good days down at Kunsan (I edited this post and added some more pics…apparently the other emails Ty sent me earlier didn’t make it through so he brought them over on a thumb drive):

I started fishing around 4:40 in the afternoon on the 19th at this Kunsan lake and fished till about 6:45. You wouldn’t believe this lake, I caught 13 that evening and missed about 5. I was itching the next day to get back out there but had a lot of work to do as I only get to visit Kunsan once a month TDY. (Yeah that sucks-not anymore now that I know where to fish) So later that evening on the 20th the itch was gone because I was out there again about 4:45 and fished till 7 and it was the best – I caught 15 and missed 10. The one bass I caught had a hook sticking out of his gill, maybe that was the big one I missed the night before – yeah that one jumped twice and laughed at me and then got into some weeds and then said “bye” to me. Hey this was yet the best fishing I’ve done in about 3 years. Enjoy the pics!

 Some pics of the lake:

And here are the pics of the biggest bass:

Nomad’s Note:  I’ve received several emails in the past from people stationed down at Kunsan AB, asking me for directions to places to catch bass.  WTF!  You guys have a lake 5 minutes out your front gate which has some really decent bass in it, as you can see from the above pics.

I have fished at the lake near the AB main gate several times, but only managed a few dinks, but I know that there are some good fish in there.

    Ty’s The Man!!!

  3. Nomad says:

    Ty,

You were killing them down there, way to go…quality and quantity, I bet you had a blast!

Senkos and spinnerbaits! What cracks me up is that you told me no one else around you was catching anything  What were they using for lures?

  4. hunterdave99 says:

Well what do you know, nets in that lake too.

  5. Nomad says:

I’ll have to ask Ty if the nets there were placed one every 10 yards, like out in the river…from the pics, it sure doesn’t look like it though. Speaking of nets, when I was at Idong yesterday, I noticed that there are even more out there now  …I remember a few years ago, there were only a couple in the entire lake.

  6. Steve says:

As far as I can remember, there are some nets in that lake, but not in the numbers I saw in the river

Those lake photos show the exact same spot that have fished with some pretty good luck. Again (after seeing the added photos), way to go Ty!!

  7. TY says:

 Thanks again Frank for posting the pics. As far as the nets go nothing like the Pyoungteak River, there were just a few along the wall. I tried to go around but there is only a bike ride route there and no vehicles can pass. I’m waiting for my next TDY trip, it may be sooner then expected….

  8. Dano says:

Way to slay ‘em Ty. John and I ended up with around 25 in about 2 hours. They weren’t real big but they all fought with an attitude. See you around.

  9. TY says:

Thanks Dano, maybe I’ll see you out there again!

hey guys you seem to know some good fishing spots over here. i live in geumsan with my husband and we havent been here long but he is a fisher i was wondering if you could give me some info on fishing laws and where to go places and where not to go places. Thanks for your help.

  11. Nomad says:

    yoyo,

Sorry, I’ve never been to your neck of the woods so I can’t recommend any spots but basically, if you can find a lake or river near you, it should have fish (bass, bluegill, carp, tarpon, snakehead, etc). As far as fishing laws, as far as I know, there aren’t any. The only thing is that some of the lakes charge a “maintenance fee” which is usually 5,000 or 10,000 won per day.

  12. Wilsong says:

    Yoyo, Nomad

    Where is Geumsan?

  13. Steve says:

    Wilsong,

Geumsan is down South in Jinju, not too far from me. I was fishing there yesterday.

    Yoyo,

There is a few places to fish for bass and other spiecies in the Geumsan and Jinju areas. I was fishing in your area yesterday and caught plenty of bass. There are no fishing laws that I am aware of and no licence or daily fee is needed.
