I have just got these photos from my bass club website of the boat ramp area at Andong…it’s a sad sight. I hope the water levels start to rise soon!
Quantity
While yesterday was all about quality, today was about quantity, which made for quite the fun morning.
I started out throwing spinnerbaits and VibraShocks in different colors but only caught this bass on a bluegill-colored VibraShock. I did, however, manage to donate two more lures to the river. Once I got tired of losing throwing spinnerbaits and VibraShocks, I switched over to 4-inch Senkos and that’s when the fun really started.
I caught at least 15 bass but unfortunately, they were all that size or smaller. The problem is that the smaller bass really tend to tear the Senkos up, and I went through about 10 Senkos this morning. But it sure was fun to catch that many fish in 1 1/2 hours.
Finally!
I went back out to the river this morning before work, to the same spot where a bass broke my line not once but two times last week. And yes, I did replace the 6-pound test line with some new 10-pound test over the weekend and it’s a good thing I did, or I’d be writing yet another sob story.
Once again, I had no bites till close to 6:15 or so and that’s when I caught the above fish, which I thought was a pretty good start for the week. But then, things got a lot better:
Both of the above pics are of the same fish…I cast my 4-inch Senko (black with blue flakes) over to the right, close to the rocks and as soon as the Senko started sinking, that bass grabbed it and took off. Once I set the hook, I knew I had a decent bass on but the trick was getting the fish to shore without another line break. Once I got the bass close to shore I saw that the hook was in the very corner of its lip, just hanging by a thread….one more hard run or a shake of the head and I’d be writing another “the one that got away” story but luckily the gods were smiling on me today because as you can see, I finally caught that elusive 50cm bass. It doesn’t matter what happens the rest of the week, or hell, the rest of the year, because now I’m all set
LOL, I was so excited that I forgot to weigh it!
That’s What I Get For Being Lazy
Do you remember how I had a fish break my 6-pound test line yesterday and how I said I was going to restring that reel once I got home? Well, once I got home, I was too lazy to do it and left it for the weekend. Which would have been a good plan, except that I went back out again this morning, with the same rods and reels. From 5 till around 6:30, I didn’t have a single bite but at 6:30, it was like someone had turned on a switch and the bass got active. I was reeling in my Senko when I felt a light tap and then the line slowly started coming towards me so thinking it was a dink, I set the hook. No dink…the fish immediately started stripping line (I have my drag set so that a 1-pound fish can barely take it out if it makes a good run). I was trying to reel the fish in but it was continuously taking out line and finally, I had the fish to within 2 feet of shore and it came to the surface, rolled, and took off…SNAP!
Guess who will most definitely be restringing their reel this weekend…
I ended up catching 5 bass, all within 15 or 20 minutes of each other, all on 4-inch Senkos, black with blue flakes – no luck with the spinnerbaits this morning. Close to 7, it started getting crowded out there with carp fishermen (it’s a Korean holiday) so I made a few more casts and headed in to work with a mental note to put some decent line on this reel of mine. Like I told Rob, if you look up the word ‘lazy’ in the dictionary, you will see my picture prominently displayed
